O/T Eliminating Chipmunks

What is a good way to get rid of Chipmunks, I'm being over run by them and they are also driving my dog crazy. Can't let her chase them as she's a hunter and a runner. Don't waant her to get away and get hurt or taken by someone else, a Jack Russel mix, rescure dog.

Lead poisoning would be my guess.

I picked up the small Havahart trap at a barrage sale for the wife. She hates the things for eating her flower bulbs. She traps then drowns them. 15 already this year and they're finally tapering off.

We've been overrun by then the last couple or three years too. I have found that a bucket half full of water with a board leading up onto the rim seems to work pretty well. 6 have drowned in the bucket by the chicken coop in the last month or so. When one has drowned I dump the chipmunk and the water and refill, it's very quick and easy. I don't know why they jump in, but they do.

Being part jack russel, I can see why they would drive her crazy.

We used some small clear plastic drink bottles with the bigger opening. Put their favorite inside like peanuts, seeds, etc.
If the opening is just big enough to go in, they fill their cheeks and then can't figure out why they can't fit thru to get out.

Disposal method is up to you.

kill them! Nothing worse than giving your problem pests to someone else to deal with.

Send them out on the bike trail. My daughter ran over one and its eyes popped out and stuck to her leg.

I just use a plastic Victor rat trap with a couple of peanuts as bait, works wel.

Mamma cats. This spring the mamma cats cleaned out all the ground squirrels within 1/4 mile of home. The Toms just lay around like lazy bums.

Cats are the ticket. I have very few problems like that because of the cats I have. Even moles are not much problem since a cat will dig them up and kill them and then let them lay. But I can say I have a cat problem. As in to many how many do you want???????

CHIP 'MUNK' INATOR made by rugged ranch products, is a chipmunk sized version of the Squirrelinator that we use here. We removed 80 squirrels in the first month from our property. like You, we were taken over by them, they were getting into everything, damaging our vehicles, plants,feed,ect. We use a handful of chicken scratch in and around the trap, works amazing, move it around on your property for best results. After catching, drop in a plastic kiddie pool,they drown very fast, if you have to eliminate them, it is probably the most humane way, if there is such a thing, to do. Afterward's toss them somewhere your dogs cant get to them and the natural food chain will dispose of them.

Years ago had an infestation of chipmunks. Poured creosote oil down their holes. Never saw them again. Don't believe creosote is available to the public anymore.
