When I was young I saw an 110/120 outlet on a 856
demonstrator did this option ever take off?or should
I say work properly?

It's not that complicated. All you need is an inverter to convert 12 DC into 110/120 AC.
You can buy an inverter at most any auto parts or camping store.
The wiring is pretty straight-forward.
You can even get a small inverter that plugs into the power port on your car's dash.

I have a 120 volt generator that an old friend gave me before he died. It's IH red, and he said it mounted on the front of an H or M and was spun off of the belt pulley.

I saw this pair at a tractor show a couple of years ago. Generator on the tractor and electric motor on the baler

True, but the small Walmart-type inverters I've tried have burned up when I tried to use an electric motor, for example an electric drill.

Don't know if they still have it but for years the local Ford car dealership used one around their lot. I think it was on a 400 Farmall.

IH offered a tractor mounted AC generator. They even had them for 3 phase. IH called it "Electrall" They even had electric ran Balers and such. So instead of a PTO you had a cord with a electric motor on the baler/implement. I never say one of those in use. I do know of several of the Electrall generators. Early back up generators for the farm.

As for the age it was before the *%^ would have came out. The ones I know of would have been on the IH 400 or 450 tractors.

My Dad had something like that on his old F100. I think his was a reworked alternator. You could run a drill or skillsaw off it, which was all he demanded of it.

(quoted from post at 11:05:16 07/02/18) I bought a 300 watt inverter years ago, would not light up a 75 wat bulb.

Good inverters are expensive. I had an 1800 watt unit in my work van to charge the computer and run a printer. It was always touch and go if it would stay running, and the cooling fan drew a heck of a lot of juice.
