Gear oil for 9N

I have a 9N ford that has the original 1 1/8" PTO spline that I replaced with the 1 3/8" conversion. My question is: Since this is an older tractor, should I use 90w mineral oil, or can I use straight 90 wt that I have an abundance of? Thanks guys!

What you uses needs to meet the Ford 134D spec due to needing to be yellow metal friendly. Many of the newer oils tend to cored yellow metal which can/will cause problems with the hyd parts of that 9N

Straight weight 50 motor 60 motor oil is just as thick or thicker than 90 gear oil, is yellow metal friendly and has more antiwar additives.

You are 100% spot on, Ford originally called for 90wt but they changed it to Ford 134 hyd oil worked at a Ford dealer for years and this was a common asked question
