doing chores going from farm to farm about 1 1/2 through fields and woods, seen a deer stand about three weeks ago comming back from chores I took it down, left it on the ground. friday going to do evening chores there sits a chev p-u at deer stand I am driving my gator, so I stop is this yours, yes did you take it down, yes, well I am allowed to be here, I know the owner, wrong farm because I am the owner by the way how did you get back in here, off the township road witch means he had to run through my corn field. helped him load tree stand and he left, followed him out 3-4 rows of corn knocked down about half mile long, got his tag number [out of county] called sheriff told dispatch been about seven days nobody came out

Paying attention to capitalization, punctuation, and sentence and paragraph structure can go a long way towards people knowing what you're talking about.

Where do you live that the Sheriffs response is that slow? I would be calling every day until you get service.

You need to calculate the value of the corn lost, then get his name and address from the Sheriff and send him a letter demanding payment within X days. If no payment, sue him in Small Claims court. The money is probably not a huge amount (although 4 rows for a half mile is quite a lot of corn), but he needs to go through a little hassle on this, so maybe it won't happen to someone else in the future.

Think of it this way Goose.....do you ever remember meeting someone from far, far away who had such a thick accent that you could barely understand every other word? Well, think of this as Stonerock's accent. *lol*

The response is so slow because the violator was not detained.
Plus the guy is from another county.
Therefore another "LEO Kingdom".
And the guy might be chummy with the law in his county.

Has nothing to do with whether you're "smart" or not. I've seen very smart and educated people that had serious troubles writing with punctuation. One in particular happened to become a teacher in a local community college. Smart man, but just had trouble getting punctuation correct.

My dad was a straight-A student in school, but couldn't seem to grasp Algebra. Trig, Calculus, Geometry....no problem.

I used to know someone who thought fast but typed slow. They knew punctuation but, if they tried to type it, they'd lose track of what they were trying to say.

Is nothing to apologize about -- it simply 'is'.

Might be different where you are, but in IL, this issue is best handled by a conservation police officer (what we used to call a game warden). They are far more focused and interested in dealing with these types of issues than the sheriff ?s office.

Neighbor is a retired cop and he asked a local Game Warden about illegal deer stands my neighbor and myself have problems with a lot.Game Warden said to take the stand down bring it to his house and if anyone comes looking for it ask them in front of a witness if its is their stand. If they say yes then give him(The Warden) a call and he'd come and write the owner of the stand a ticket and take the stand as evidence.I would definitely try to get the guy's name and get a warrant for the damage. Also need to take pictures and a witness to the damage also if possible.

I'm surprised at your reply Goose, yes there are some errors but not a big deal in the scheme of things. I'm not a farmer and I followed his story without too much difficulty.

Thats a shame, some people have a lot of nerve for sure.It makes all hunters look bad to some,,one bad apple is sometimes all it takes.I hope you get paid for damages,,keep us posted.

Goose I guess I am just stupid as I read his post without any trouble. When I want high powered, proper written English, I usually do not go to a internet forum about old tractors and farming stuff.

Stonerock you just told the story about why WE allow ZERO hunters on any ground we have control of!!!! Yes I have to live with Deer and turkey damage but I can handle that better than the IDIOT hunters . At least the deer and turkeys are just trying to live. I find nothing amusing about fellows destroying things for their hobby.

That doesn't sound like Goose. He's having back surgery on Tuesday and I think he's just not hitting on all cylinders. Hope the surgery goes well and a speedy recovery.

I apologize. I got off on the wrong foot this morning.

I've been under a lot of stress lately, with back problems and upcoming surgery, but that's really not a valid excuse.

Goose YOU do not worry about anything we do on here. What happens on YT stays on YT. LOL

I know your mind is on many things. Than add in pain on top of it and it is understandable you short tempered at times.

You let him get off to I sure would not have. I would have taken his keys and told him to start walking. I also would have told him if he wanted the truck and stand back he would have to get a ride with the sheriff. I would then have followed him off my land. That way you would have at least had a deputy show up and be able to have the guy sighted for a few laws that where broken. Keeping his truck and stand would be proof he had broken laws

Ya I don't think you would of gotten his key or taken his truck. You might of gotten dead. Better off letting the law handle it.

I had to put a locked gate on the entrance of the dirt road to my hunting property. This is on my property. One of my friends that hunt on it, forgot to lock the gate when he left, so he called me and told me about it .I went and locked the gate and about 3 hours later a deputy sheriff stopped by and told me to unlock the gate because some guy needed to get out. Told the deputy that I wanted to press charges for trespassing, he didn't want to so I called the sheriff. and we got it done then. I had chase that guy off several time over in recent years. That's why the gate was there and locked

If he had pulled a gun I would have pulled one faster. So he would not have gotten up far enough to fire or he would have had a 44 slug between his eyes and the deputy would have a body to deal with and that is also legal called self defense

Hmmm ..... tractor forum is turning into the shootout at the OK corral ..... or the shootout at the deer stand.

I, too, thought it was unusual talk coming from you. Don't feel too bad, I've stuck my foot in my mouth enough times on here that I shouldn't even need shoes anymore.

No witnesses here. That's why, living where we do (no neighbors), that our place is plastered with video cameras. Any time I call the Sheriff's Dept anymore, they already know I have it all on camera.

Yea right, if your not expecting to get pulled on, you won't beat anybody pulling on you.

Dammit Old yer a hoot. A cross between Quickdraw Mcgraw and Superman.

I do enjoy reading your posts.

Carry on.

(quoted from post at 09:43:47 09/02/18) Where do you live that the Sheriffs response is that slow? I would be calling every day until you get service.

I think this lack of response is pretty typical. Unless you call them and they're actively trespassing, perhaps. Seems like "oh I have permission" and deer stands on the wrong property is fairly common... :(

Well my reflexes are and always have been very good and very fast. I learned how to make my reflexes fast and have done my best to keep them that way. I can also draw my 44mag and fire it very fast and have done so with deer more then once and dropped them. I also do not use a cowboy type draw which makes I even faster. Now on the other hand I am not as accurate as I once was but I'm still pretty good with a gun.

Now the superman thing heck no. If I was that I would not always have so many cuts on my hands and arms LOL

Law enforcement is one job you could not pay me to do but I'll not say why on here.

Now on the other hand at one time I was a Hunter Safety instructor and taught both my daughter and son in one of those classes and even my wife took it at the same time the kids did. Still have the instruction manual some place In the house. LOL

Guess you do not know much about back problems. My problem is low back L-5/S-1 which effects the legs. Before I had surgery I lost being able to do much with my left leg. Not my fault I was injured either since it was a crime that caused it but the cop did zero and the justice system did zero but yet it cost me a lot of $$ and my life and being able to work. You have no clue as to what is to live like I have to so shut up till you can walk a mile in my boots

Larry can you verify that the rifle in the scabbard on that jeep was a Thompson? What I can see of it in the pictures looks like one.

Well Excuuuuse Me

Did not realize I was going to strike such a nerve;
Just by saying.....
It's amazing (wonderful) (great) that you get around as well as you do considering all the medical problems you have.
But I guess I should have considered you medical problems may include more than physical problems.
From now on I will be more considerate of that fact.

Most likely the current mfg Auto Ordnance Thompson, Semi auto 18 inch barrel. About $900. Not as pre 68 select fire $8000 wwII model.
