Started some corn today pic

This field is all bmr corn. It is a sheltered field so it stood up really well. We have enough all bmr only to feed it separate for a few months to see if the hype is what it?s made out to be or not. The cobs are decent and at barely 1/2 milk line. This field saw frost in several areas so were getting it off first. We had some bmr left so used it up at hone along with the pickseed 2210. The bmr there snapped over in areas so it really doesn?t like wind that much. If we notice a difference we?ll mix it in the rows next year and not plant it all on its own. We lengthened the chop to 3/4? by taking out half the knives and it?s making a nice job. The processor is cutting them up and I can cut this tall stuff at 3.5 mph with 2 rows in the t-6 165 Newholland.

It?s brown mid rib. The insides of the stalks are a beige colour and the plant is low lignin. It makes it more digestible but also weakens the stalks against wind so if you live in a windy area you need to plan your planting accordingly. Claims are 2-3 lbs more milk/cow/day vs conventional corn. No the world doesn?t need more milk but we do need to make it cheaper.

Looks to be quite a tall plant as well. I grew some years ago, forget the variety, and had a bit left over when the silo was full. Pretty near had to fork it into the combine, but yield was very good.

My wonderful wife does the chopping for me. She keeps the radio fairly low and doesn?t lock the back window so if something?s making a noise or stops making a noise she can hear it. I do the packing with the open station kubota. We have almost 60 planted acres to go so I?ll owe her quite a few dinners out when she?s finished.

No problem,it was planted 32 000/ac. This pic is a little harder to tell the height. It?s not as tall as the other field but it?s still 9-10? to the tassel. This is Pickseed 2210 non-bmr. Not many growing bmr,it?s more expensive and it will go down in unsheltered areas if there?s wind. We?re trying a bit to see and deciding after this winter if we?ll grow any more.
