Folks, you could consider this a triple expansion steam pony motor.

Note: There is a missing "0" in the comments regarding the HP of the big engine.

This is where the engine room footage of the movie Titanic was filmed.

Those of you that like steam engines might want to consider visiting the triple expansion steam pumping engines at the Cincinnati Water Works.

These engines, the largest (not the most HP) triple expansion steam pumping engines ever built are still there in the engine house.

Though no longer operating (since 1963) the engines have been maintained for static display.

You can visit the website and schedule a visit.

Dean , I found this on the Titanic engines. Worth the time to watch.

I watched that recently.

Interesting indeed.

The builders of the Titanic chose triple expansion rather than turbine engines for the two main engines for efficiency. She was not as fast as some competitive ships with turbine power but was more efficient. As it turned out, it didn't matter much.

Hope you make it, Steve.

Though only about 50 miles away, I've never been there but it's on my bucket list too. I remember my Father telling us kids in 1963 that they were going to shut the engines down forever. He and my Mother investigated to see if our family could visit before the shut down but such visits were not allowed at the time. What a tragedy! It would have been something that one would forever remember.

Be sure to watch Parts 2 and 3 of the videos. Watching how the pump house was built 85' below grade in flood prone area next to the Ohio River in the very early 1900s is fascinating.
