Windmill down.

I have not been to the ethanol plant for 2 weeks but here are some pics-they have one out of the three on the ground and had to take the crane completely apart to get it across the railroad tracks that runs between them. I thought it was politics and not having all your ducks in a row was the reason they had to take them down but you can see by the last pic the real reason!---Tee

Well darned if this wasn't what I expected. My buddy and I picked up an 8' Aermotor head and fan that had toppled some years back. Surprisingly the fan is in very good shape. The center cast hub is cracked and will have to be replaced or fixed. We hope to put it on a tower that stands at the Forest City Mn. show.

I was asked by the turbine co.a few yrs.ago if I wanted to sign up, said no. I can see many of them from my living room window so don't need any in my back yard. Yes, they are noisy. Many did sign at that time with a contract , when tax crunch came the co. pulled their contracts. Go fiqure.

Why was it taken down? Let me guess, some bird was killed or disrupted the migration pattern of a bug.

If the ones I think, they were taken down because the owners did not permit them correctly, and the locals complained, so courts sides with the locals. It is stupid, but they must tear them out, and reapply if they want to re-install.

Scott-you have good eyes-had to look how you saw that and saw the reflection in windshield. Son bought two of Volvos out of La. and neither one had a second seat. We would be working at another farm an if we quit for the night and the home place was on the way home one of us would have to set on the floor so I got a lawn chair out of the garage so now we can all ride like kings! Son says he is looking for a couple of seats.---Tee

Boy T you sure do like to cause trouble! Wait till the ytdot see that. First you post pics of yourself driving thru an inch of water and now an unapproved seat with no restraints! We wont mention driving and taking photos! Please dont show your scale ticket!

I can't prove it but it is a Iowa DOT approved crash dummy seat. Every load is legal as long you don't get stopped...I am glad harvest is finished-the two Volvos made 131 trips to the ethanol plant-no electric tarp or traps.---Tee--The wife with a load last year. She hit a cat!

Son said some grocery chain had them--bought them from a truck jockey---Tee--cute joke

So a hundred and 31 thousand bushels off of how many acres? Do you store any there on the farm or sell it all out of the field?

I've wondered what the load looks like on a single axle truck- I assume the trailer is sized smaller than for a tandem, correct. The S/A sure would be easier to maneuver in and around tight spaces.

I agree and i don't even live near any. But on the way out west to hunt i see them and there awful looking .I can just image how loud they
are. I bet they kill a lot of birds also. Seems like more of an expense than they are worth

Noisy??? My office was right across the highway from one. You never heard anything from it. If I had enough property there would be a dozen or two on it.

Forest City show...the windmill tower that Spanky over spent when he was authorized for $500 and bid it up to $900?-...and the club paid it? Only to find out later that the family selling it would have given it to the club, had they known it? He should have paid the extra $400.

(quoted from post at 21:38:40 11/27/18) Noisy??? My office was right across the highway from one. You never heard anything from it. If I had enough property there would be a dozen or two on it.

A dozen wind turbines would require a huge amount of land. New regulations will soon require a 3,000 foot setback from adjoining property lines.

It isn't just the noise. The shadow flicker is a very real problem also.

I cant imagine those things make money. At work the 900 ton and 100 ton assist crane have been on rental every day for 3 weeks now and haven't put either boom in the air yet. Too windy too foggy too much ice on the blades etc. They still get the bill. Two years ago one wind farm had a $700,000 crane rental for maintenance.
