Kubota Losing Coolant

Ok Guys I bought a Kubota RTV1100 at Auction. Engine in it is a D1105-EF02 about 25 horse, I think this engine is widely used. It had a radiator leak that we found and repaired, it is still loosing Coolant. I have been told that if these are allowed to run hot that the head is prone to warp. The head looks easy to pull. Has anyone been in one of these? How much can be milled off to level it? What about parts availability? Genuine parts that I have priced seem rather pricey. Anyone got any thoughts or experience?

BAD news will not be a warped head, forget it. Will be cracked between the precup and valve. No repair , new head $600 + depending on where you get it. Head gasket and go BUT most times I go on and stick a set of rings in . Depends on how hard it is to start right now. Quick work , you can have the head off in an hour or less.

It starts OK, have to glow it, 10 - 15 seconds, if it sits very long. Runs good, plenty of power, just losing coolant. Where to get a head besides the dealership?

If you find aftermarkets let me know.. Some folks advertise them but they are just reselling KUBOTA parts. Just find you a dealer that will work with you on some discount. Having to glow it to start is indication of low compression.

Just want to throw in that I was told that Kubota only built in a 2% extra capacity of cooling on the 1100. That means any chaff or mud on radiator will cause it to overheat. Customers would take a the garden hose and spray off the radiator. Then before it was dry take it out on a dusty trail. Couple times and it was plugged. Nice machines just know that if you fix it, be aware how easy it can over heat again.

Do not worry about hitting the glow plugs. I?ve been around probably 15 since they first came out and everyone you have to hit the glow plugs if it sits my cousin has on that sits in a shop at 60 degrees year round and it still likes you to warm the plugs so don?t get hung up on that.

There?s some reefer cooler unit rebuilding guys that handle tons of these tiny little Kubota diesels and are in the know. They have some access to aftermarket parts for sone models.

Thanks for all of the input, it appears to have a new water pump. Rad shop cleaned the radiator, we found a leaky lower rad hose, replaced it. Sooooo looks like I'm going to go in it. No off to the Dealer to price a head and gaskets. I will post back here the results. i do need 2 of the servo motors for the HVAC system if anyone knows where to obtain them, Kubota wants $400.00 for the one I priced.

Can you pressure test the system to check for any leaks you missed, BEFORE you take the head off?

I forgot to say that when it begins to heat up, it only takes a bout a pint of water to fill it back full. So even a small leak is serious for these little fellows.

Update on the RTV ..... Got a used head from Grainfarmer, a head set from local dealer. Got it all back together and got her running. Momma is happy! it starts better, does not heat up and runs like it is supposed to. Thanks for the input guys cracked head was the problem. Now if I can find a good blend door motor for the HVAC all will be working as it should.
