I wonder if I can use some kinda pto pump on my John Deere 40 to run a log splitter? The tractor has 3 point but no hydraulics. I think it would be handy to hang a 3 point splitter on that little tractor

I use a 540 2100psl 22 gal per min pot pump on my splitter and run it with my B 720D and 2130 JD?s it makes a nice splitter out of mine as it used to use the tractor hyd. They have them in the Northern tool catalog

i have a 3-point splitter and believe you are better off getting a stand alone with it's own engine, tractor mounted is powerfull but a little slow.

That tractor does have hydrolics, you just need the optional remote valve but it may be hard to find.

Yes, a JD 40 has hydraulics, but it's very low pressure and volume. A pto pump like recomedes has both high pressure and volume, which you need for a splitter to work efficiently. A big pto pump will make the engine work at times.

Just trying to correct his statement that a Deere 40 has no hydrolics. I know nothing about how good they would work on that but that it does have what he said it does not have.
