Ip knocking on Power Major

I just picked up my first diesel, an old power major that starts and runs great. However the Injection pump is knocking really loud even after its warmed up, I was wondering what the issue could be? I opened up the side cover and found a stuck plunger and got it free, all of them are moving good and free now.

Thanks,
Jonah

With the engine running, loosen each injector line, and see if the knock stops on any given loose injector. If so pull that one and have it checked for a stuck needle or one or more holes plugged. Injectors are what LOAD the pump, if on is sticking, or has holes plugged the load pump has to overcome will go up drastically. Might be good to pull all four and see what shape they are in. Tips are replaceable if needed to make them like new again.

As said below, add some ATF to your diesel and into the pump through the side cover, works
well.

Major's also have a "clatter" from the fibre pump drive coupling as it wears, a common
problem but they ran for years and years like that, coupling can be tightened by slackening
the clamp bolt on the drive shaft and pushing the drive half towards the pump. That will
quieten things down for a while. New fibre drives ar still available.

I think you're right. It was loose when I picked it up, thought it was the pump. Good to hear its not a big deal, I'll try to see if I can tighten it up. I found this coupling on ebay, would this work? https://www.ebay.com/itm/E1ADDN99318-New-Fordson-Injector-Pump-Drive-Assembly-Super-Major-Power-Major/233182254454?hash=item364abed576:g:BywAAOSwm-Ncnd0D.

Thanks for the help!

That is the part but there are two different drive shaft sizes and keyway sizes for the
auxiliary drive shaft. The Super Major had a bigger shaft and keyway so the same coupling
does not fit both. I would go for the drive pad on the same site at half the price.
