Overrunning clutch purchase decision

Hey everyone!

I'm looking to order an ORC shortly, I'm just now too sure on which one to order, I've narrowed it down to two choices.

-Speeco with a roll pin from Fleet Farm

-No name from Agri supply with quick detach

The no name is cheaper by $28 and is a QD which is awesome, but I'm concerned of it's quality. Should I pony up the higher price and inconvenience of the roll pin ORC from Speeco or just go with the cheap-o one? Does anyone have any experience with either of these ORC's? Any advice would be appreciated. I would primarily be using it to run a brush hog on my Ford 640.

Get the best 1 you can. 4 people I knew have been killed
because they didn't work or brake failure on n fords.

Spend a little extra and get the quick
release type with the push button to
remove it.
You only need the ORC when you use a
brush hog type mower. If you use the
tractor with other types of PTO
equipment you'll always have to be
installing or removing that orc to
connect them. The type with the roll pin
work fine but are a PIA to change all
the time.
The push button type is quick and easy.

what are you using it on?

i know on my FIL's 9N ford with a brush hog the ORC made the PTO shaft too long and would bottom out if the brush hog floated too much

so keep an eye on that.

I just bought a new one off ebay. Came without a pin so I made one out of a bolt. Put it on my Ford 2000 with 4 speed non-schro tranny with tranny
driven PTO. Decided that there is no reason to take it off when I finish mowing with this tractor so I don't have to worry about how it
connects/disconnects from the shaft. Being new and the fact that none of my PTO driven implements that fit it are drag type I don't need to worry about
an added vibration potential source in the drive train.

Hi, InCase: My overrunning clutch came with instructions to shorten the drive shaft that connects the O.R.C. to the mower or whatever you are powering. My drive shaft has a U-joint at each end, and nearly the whole shaft is square, acting as a slip-joint. Several inches can be cut off the inner and outer parts with a hack saw. I still have plenty of overlap where the inner shaft slides into the outer. Hope this helps, maybe I'm not explaining very well.
