Modify plow

Will this plow pull right if I take the back bottom off? I plan to pull it it at plow day with a 620 John Deere and I don?t know that three might be a little much for it.

you got a 620 so why would you take it off? also the more bottoms on a plow the better job it will do. you have gears on the tractor.

You 620 should handle 3 bottoms -- a mounted plow like will pull easier than a pull type - I would go for it if it was Me! Roy from the land of heavy black dirt!

Your 620 will do OK with 3-16 s. I don t know what your soil is like but you might be in 2nd gear if the pulling is tougher. In the heavier soils on my farm we pulled 4-14 s with a 630 for many years but it always was a struggle. A couple years ago I took off the back bottom and now it is a well matched outfit though the tractor has it s hands full in third gear in low ground.

My 38 hp 3000 will break sod with 2-16s in our heavy clay loam soil though I do have Ford's draft control system on mine which helps.
It looks like your 620 is most of 45 hp.
It may struggle to break sod the first year but in subsequent years will plow easier.
I would at least try it for two seasons before modifying that nice plow.
My plow was 3-16 when I got it but I found it was better to drop the center bottom.

I?m not familiar with ac plows, but to me it looks like you might be able to adjust that one down to a 14 inch plow. The holes look to be slotted in the irons that separate the beams. That would lighten the load a little.

We pulled 3x14 behind the A and 4x14 behind the 70. Plowing is turning over the dirt, not plowing 12 inches deep.
