Cockshutt 30 PTO?

So last year I tried to run a baler with this tractor and it worked good for a few bales. Then the baler just slowed down to a stop. The PTO lever seams to have a good snap over center. I don't see anything that adjusts it in the parts book. Also it looks like it runs in oil. Is there a way to adjust it or do I need new plates? Thanks!

What year is it? Very early 30 had a three disk clutch. Around '48 they went to five disks then later added a brake. They act like an over center but are actually spring pressure. You could have bad disks or weak springs. The only way to adjust is the shims under the pressure plate assembly. But there may be no shims. The manual calls for one .060 shim but I've found several shim thicknesses in mine. I could never find any specs on how to set them. I just guessed. You can get reproduction disks from Phil Heisey. Same gear oil as the transmission/rear end and center housing. You can drain the PTO oil separately. If you get into it the upper shaft is ball bearings and shim the cover to no end play. The output shaft is on tapered rollers with .005 preload. You should get a manual.

Thanks for the help! I think mine is a 49 model. I guess I will just have to bite the bullet and open it up! Tractor worked good on the planter. I was thinking of mounting a No8 John Deere mower on it.
