Baler belt update

I posted a little while back about prices on belts for our Gehl 1865 round
baler. Well after talking to a few people we found out the local guy who
used to be a big belt guy in the area sold his business to an Amish
fellow. Dad's going to get a hold of him tomorrow. Tonight I took 3 bad
belts off the baler. What fun. I don't know who came up with the belt
routing or how they did it. First time taking one off, and putting them
back on should be real frustrating by the looks of it ! Had a couple small
tears length ways on the belts, but mostly the actual splice was tearing
out.

Tie a rope to the belt and pull the belt out. Then use the rope and pull the new belt back in. Use a wire to attach the rope to the belt splice. Been doing that for 40 years.

On belts that are being replaced just use the old belt to pull the new one in.

I understand what your saying Jd. That's how we replace belts at work on our crusher and conveyors. To be honest where the belts go back and forth it doesn't seem to have enough room for a rope. Pretty tight. We have what we call mule tape for pulling electric lines at work. I have some long lengths and maybe will try that. It's fairly thin and flat, but very strong. Thanks !

Times 2 on what JD said. That?s how I?ve always replaced belts. If the replacement belt has the same type laces, just put the laces together with the pin and pull it through. Release all the tension on the belts. I?m not familiar with a Gehl but some balers can be locked part way open and the tension fully released
