Belly mower belt farmall c

I have a woods 306 belly mower mounted on a Farmall C and need some help with the belt. I have to Woods manual but there is one thing I am apparently not understanding correctly. It says when the belt leaves the center puley and travels to the rear to the left hand idler, the belt should have a 3/4 twist. I cannot get this to work. Does the belt need to be twisted clockwise 3/4 turn before the idler or counterclckwise? Any advice is much appreciated.

Is that a Woods L59U or L306U mower? Looking at the Woods manual I have, it looks like the belt should twist clockwise (looking at it from the rear of the tractor).

My farmall originally came with a 60 inch mower. I changed it to a 72 inch mower that uses a large pulley attached to the PTO. Is yours 60 or 72 inch woods?

It is a 72 inch 306U, and I have put the twist in both clockwise and opposite. As I try to understand it, it would seem that clockwise is correct but it just seems to want to make it roll over as it crosses the drive pulley.

I tackled it again today. Have determined it is a L306 not a 306U, but that still does not explain it. I have tried everything conceivable but the belt (new) just will not stay on. There has to be some secret technique to this.
