OT Campbell Hausfeld air comprerssor

I have a campbell Hausfeld air compressor with a 5.5 briggs & Stratton engine. Have not used it in awhile started it up today and it only pumps to about 50 psi and thats it. No leaks or air escaping anywhere. ANy ideas. Thanks

There will be an unloader device that regulates the pressure.

That is designed to let the engine continue to turn the compressor, but stop the air once the tank is up to pressure.

There is probably a stuck plunger, dirt dobbers, rust, something is keeping the valve from cycling as it should. The valve in turn operates a diaphragm that unloads the cylinder(s) by holding the intake valve discs open.

Try disconnecting the line to the unloader, see if that will allow it to pump. BUT!!! Be careful, it will over pressure if left disconnected!

Same thing happened to my C-H electric compressor after sitting unused for a while. Problem turn out to be a bit of debris caught one of the inlet reed valves. Removing the head and thoroughly cleaning the reeds and reed seats has it working like new again.

I have a shut off valve on the outgoing line before the regulator, when I shut the valve there is no change in the compressor, stops building at about 45psi.

mine doesn't have a regulator it just pumps up to 120 psi then shuts off. first thing I would do is check your gage. if you have an air tank with a gauge fill it up and see if it goes beyond fifty.

Just like with any thing with ring is it sits a long time the rings can/will get stuck to the pistons and so then it cannot build compression like it should. A bit of ATF into the intake can make a big difference fast

My 2 cents. Bet you have a broken read valve. Had that happen on one of mine last year. Some air is getting compressed while the other side is blowing past. Kit is cheep enough. Carefully remove the head. Take copious amount of pictures scetches what ever because it is very easy to mix things up. It only CORRECTLY goes back together one way around. ;)

The problem is probably in the head of the pump. There are flapper valves which get dirt in them and fail to seal where you are not getting the compression you should. The air is just blowing out the top instead of going in the tank. You might just be getting compression on one cylinder. I had one that quit compressing at all. I purchased a head gasket set, took it apart and cleaned it and now it's good as new.

I pulled the head off cleaned it and put it back together, I ket it run for several minutes, everything works so far. Thanks for the replies.
