Field _of _Dreams

News says the LA Dodgers are holding a regular season major league ball game at the Field of Dreams on 8 - 13 - 2020. Don't recall to many seats available at the Field of Dreams. Is there an airport to get the team in there. Bet seating will be limited. They will probably use a JD tractor to trim the grass in the out field before then. Be something to see next summer.

Wow. The logistics of that to get in enough seating, enough power and portapoties, traffic control.

Cool deal something different to attract interest and attention, but whomever is in charge of that project is going to have some sleepless nights!

So, you don?t want to wreck the corn outfield with giant portable bleachers. How do you put in seating? Gets more interesting as I think about it.....

You put in as much seating around the infield and out the foul lines as you can, sell that many tickets, and run it live on a major network. Sure, they won't make near as much money as in a 40,000 seat stadium, but they don't have to make a killing every game. Gotta leave the corn as the outfield "wall"- otherwise you might as well play it in Yankee Stadium.

I remember a major premise of the movie was that taking the land out of corn production was going to bankrupt Costner. A ball field is about 2 acres- I don't think that would break him.

They covered this on several of the sports talk shows this morning, building ~8500 temporary seats. As mentioned, the other amenities will be even more difficult- water and electricity, and sanitation needs. Bringing in media, food and vendors and parking for all the above. Seems ill-conceived, and, if so necessary, why wasn't it done 20 years ago, when the movie had some carry? I don't mind watching the teams play at the Little League World Series site, or in Puerto Rico, etc, but those are, at least, established stadia.

Oh sure, but the movie was about old players coming walking out of the corn field directly onto the outfield......

If you take away the corn field to put up bleachers, you just lost the entire concept and mystery and appeal of the whole deal!

So, you have to put in seating, I see about 8000 seats they say, but you have to keep some sort of corn growing on the edge of the outfield or the whole thing becomes pointless and off putting to fans of baseball and the movie.

Paul

Ah, looking at the short video of it, they won?t mess with the actual movie set field, but build an entire temp field out in the corn field next to the set.

That makes some sense, the original movie set has some historic value as is, isn?t well suited to modifications without basically destroying it.

That seems easier, keep the original movie field, and build a whole field 1000 feet away other end of the same corn field.

I was visiting my daughter who lives now near Woodstock Ontario. There is farmer there who also made a field of dreams replica field on his farm. It is for his kids and friends to play at.I should have taken some pictures ,he did areally nice job.

Progressive Ins. must be sponsoring it. Have you seen their commercials lately. The Geico lizard just wouldn't show up walking out of the corn, and would get scooped up by a big old crow anyways. LOL.----------Loren

My son and I have tossed balls around on the Field Of Dreams set. Pay some admission and there it is. Nice place. The corn was about 7 ft tall when we were there. 2007. Sounds like a good deal for the surrounding area net income. Jim

It would have to include the Yankees right? Someone mentioned John Deere mowers, etc. In Antique Power Magazine years ago there was an article about the field tractor at the Milwaukee Braves home field "County Stadium" in the 1950's ...... yes, today's Atlanta Braves were in Milwaukee back then. It was an Allis Chalmers WF which someone had found somewhere and had restored.

Tramway guy, They don?t have the pro teams come in any more. The big money for Cooperstown now is the All star village where kid teams from all over the U.S. come to play. Google maps should have a picture it has many fields. Local city of Oneonta has fields as well called Oneonta Dreams park. I worked for a local contractor so we all have made a little off the field of dreams. My wife works in Cooperstown and in the summer it?s hard to find parking .

My son's AAU team played there around 1997 they had about 10 fields it was close to a week event they put on a great show we really enjoyed it other than it was expensive... They were invited back for their world series at no cost they even would pay to fly them in. The week of the series his team was playing at Minnesota in the AAU national championships so they had to decline the offer...

A few miles from me a guy built a field of dreams it was the best ball field I had ever seen collage teams from around the country came to play on it. It had no seating you brought your own are stood up that's the way the owner wanted it. There was never a charge to go there are a fee for a team to play on it.

When they built the 421 bypass around Sanford the center of the bypass went across home plate... The guy that built the bypass owned the field so I spec he got his money back...

The local High School field is named after his daddy no expense has been spared its a nice field also locally its called sacred ground... Its plush :)...

I have kept up with baseball its my game its about getting folks interested in it... Its a push like may others they go after like back in the early 2000's they went after black players to up the interest in the game...

Baseball is a team game its rare one person can dominate it... You can not hide a weak player the ball will find him... If you can hit the ball they will find a place for you to play...
