Bruce posted below about having a big "deer" in his field.

Just across the road from my farm, my friend and neighbor Al has a big sick "kitty" in his field, the poor thing sits all scared and alone after suffering engine failure.

He traded it off and it's waiting to be retrieved by the CAT dealer.

I didn't DARE ask what a replacement engine would have cost, or what it cost to trade!

I'll bet it will take a pant load of coins to repair.

A 5th generation farmer a mile down the road is loyal to Green. We ride our 3 wheel bikes past his place in the evening and I see many $$$ sitting there during harvest and planting season. Then I see many $$$ in his pole barns to store them when not in use. His grain drying operation. His semis. His irrigation.
I can't get my mind around how much he must have invested in his farming operation. Not to mention , he doesn't have yesterdays tractors. This year he purchased a green lawnmower with cab and AC. Wish I could afford one.

My dad said a farmer becomes rich after he dies and they sell off his assets.

I'll venture to say it will seem like a lot of money to wake up this CAT, but in the overall total cost to farm, it may be just a drop or two.

He may be better off trading than waiting for a crate engine that may not be built and shipped for 4 months.
