Well, that was fast and easy

I posted back on Tuesday that my pump drive coupler failed on my wood splitter. I serched the internet for a new TB Woods coupler insert and found lots of them but none of the sources offered any kind of dimensions to order the correct one. I got fed up and Called Grainger in Albany, NY and within minuets the tech was able to give me a part number and verify that they had several. With-in 24 hours the 2 new ones that I ordered were here. They were less than 10 bucks each and shipping for 2 was the same as one. It took me about 20 min. to remove the 4 bolts holding the motor to the frame and replace the coulping and rebolt the motor in place. I'm back in the firewood business.--------------------Loren

Good stuff ! Great service ! Now, go get at it. I'm guessing this is next years supply. Do to circumstances, I didn't get my wood in until the end of June - a hot summer turned it into perfect (only 4.5 cords).

Needed a couple seal kits for the bucket cylinders on my Case 70 loader. Called the local hydraulic shop for seal kits for a GB 8-900 loader...same loader. Said he could make one up if I brought in the old parts for $60-300 apiece. Ordered them on-line for $23.99 and $8 shipping. Hate to do it but it is my money. Bought the loader in 1972 and has loaded thousands of squares and round bales. Good loader, first time replacing them.

One of the truly annoying things about online sales is that so many sellers can't be bothered with posting any specifications for their products. It seems Amazon sellers are the worst, but you find it even when companies have their own web sites. Sometimes you can find the specs online, sometimes not. For example, the other day I was looking for bicycle parts. For some of this stuff you need to be very specific as to the dimensions, because the newer parts aren't interchangeable with the older stuff. The sellers often just give a manufacturer (say Shimano) part number. But if you go the manufacturer's web site, they don't list specs on their parts, either! So I end up buying from other sellers, who DO publish the specs.

I highly modified the splitter, and a priority was a tool box built into it, The extra coupling is in the tool box with a dedicated cheap set of wrenches and socket set.and will be until needed. Replacing the insert in the woods would be no big deal if necessary. The insert that I replaced was original and lasted 30 some years. I much doubt that I will be splitting wood when I am 100 plus, and have the need to change it again, but who knows with today's replacement parts. The new one may only last a week, but it does have the TB Woods logo on it so I presume it will last.------Loren

Glad that you got your wood done. I have no problem burning wood in the winter that was cut in the summer. I also much prefer to cut and harvest my wood wearing a Tee shirt and jeans rather than wollaring around in snow banks wearing heavy insulated Carharts , big bulky boots and mittens. BTDT and it was no fun.------------Loren

The timber was felled last year and cold decked. Just a matter of bucking and splitting. Still got a couple more cords left - no more room in wood shed - have it covered.
