I use a lot of N95 dust masks every year. They filter out a lot of dust. Now they are priced out of my price range. I could buy 10 for 20.00. Now I see the same 10 for over 500.00. due to the spread of the virous. I will dig around on the floor of my pickup to see if I can salvage a few. Stan

Interesting issue. People choose to do what they see others doing, even if it is worthless. Dust masks do not work at all on the virus. It takes a real hasmat type filter sealed to one's face to be effective to any degree. Production will go up to billions of masks, then they will be $0.05 Jim

Just got back from my local plumbing supply. Four dust masks for two bucks. Odd because their prices are usually very high compared to a big box store but their service and knowledge is great so that's why I go there.

We use them at work and I use them around the farm when blowing off combine or bean dust. Went to order more today and grainger is sold out till may 5 also daughter is manager at walmart they sent all their masks to hospitals so none there either. So tonight I'm going to big r to buy red bandanas and use them for dust like granddad did they work too just not as good

Perhaps a respirator mask would be and alternative? One would be hotter to wear than a regular face mask.

Years ago surgical masks were made of cloth, could be washed in the laundry dozens or hundreds of times. Maybe buy or make something like that until the supply of disposable masks can be replenished?

Horrible Freight has several types including Niosh N95.

These filter out 95 percent of particles over 0.3 microns. The coronavirus particle is 0.1 to 0.2 microns so it may filter out some, but not all virus particles. According to recent information the virus is spread mostly by contact. The masks keeps people from touching their mouth and nose. Workers wearing N95 repirators at Wouhan hospital did not get coronavirus. At least ten of the workers at the hospital not wearing repirators came down with coronavirus yet those wearing repirators came into patient contact 7.5 times more often. If this information is correct then masks do help.

A red blood cell is about 3 microns by 7 microns. Most bacteria are over 0.3 microns.

Janicholson, I hope that you are not sharing this information with YT only. You need to straighten out the CDC on this before the virus kills millions!

I think most people realize that these masks will have little impact, but when you're desperate to stay alive, you'll try most anything.

I have some farmers lung and use a mask when in dusty stuff or opening silos. I decided to get some masks this morning before they were all gone at Menard's. I was just about to late to get any and all of the N95's were gone. One fellow was there buying them to resell and said he sold 6000 last week on Ebay. I told the check out lady I was buying them for farm use and not like everyone else. She said you would not believe how people are over reacting and hoarding. What is going To happen when the virus gets here for real? Tom

For that price I would buy a hand full, they probably will be on the endangered list by the time I start mowing in a month or so. I still have four, and the used ones in my pickup. Stan

From what I have read it seems that gloves might be just as important if not more so to protect us from whatever virus is left by other people's hands. Door knobs, shopping carts, bank machines, etc.

I bought them because I'm in the middle of a kitchen remodel, doing a lot of sanding and just breathing stuff that doesn't belong in my lungs. I also use them for lawn-mowing, they really help. Didn't think about the corona virus.

Starting with a google search I find that many listings show out of stock with no expectations. As if they have been discontinued(probably lost a lawsuit)

supersceded or otherwise

here is
15 for 22.99

Reminds me of 10 or 12 years ago when people started buying up all the ammunition because they thought guns were about to be outlawed.

The N95 filter material may be marginally effective for viruses but the poor face-seal of the typical N95 mask negates it.

What to buy ammo or take our guns?? Yes they are still trying to do as Hitler did so they can take over this once great nation

On a side note didn't you offer to send me some Bamboo this spring

Very true one pretty much needs a true gas mask to do much of any thing to stop a virus. Plus if one has a beard most gas mask will do you no good unless you have some grease to grease your beard with

Listened to a gov't expert the other day and he said masks are over rated. You need something to keep the virus out of your eyes also.

Yes the way things are going where I live I need something to help stop the water from stealing my land. Shoot if I didn't know better I would think my chicken house is sinking into the ground either that or the duck are eating the dirt around it. My e-mail is always open on here

As someone above said, the mask might work best by keeping your hands away from your mouth

More of a reminder than a true physical barrior.
