Got my mower belts sized

From my post about belt length with different pulleys a few days ago. someone had a good idea. Just cut a belt the correct length. That's what I did, and wired it together, and went to Napa and found a belt the same length. Another belt question. How to determine the correct belt tension. I usually just push the belts between the pulleys. If the belt deflects 3/4 inch, is that enough or too much, for three belts? Stan
 
Cutting a belt was kinda my idea. Good that it worked. your tensioning method seems good to me. 1/2" when pushed hard is about right to my thinking. Jim
 
Jim's idea to cut an old belt is a good idea, on our Woods I ran a 50 foot tape around the entire run of the old belt, worked well. There are charts online that helped me calculate proper size, it is a B 225. To get the tension correct you need one of these, in the paper mill we had a lot of belt drives so our boss bought one for each millwright. Then you need the appropriate chart for the belts you are using,
