Can anyone tell me what was used for bearings in the 48 in, mower deck. Mine are getting very noisy and was wondering if they used bearings or sleeves. There is no way to lube them. Thanks for. Your help.

there is two sealed ball bearing in each spindle,, when removing the spindle shaft you Have to remove the drive pulley Before you try to drive the shaft out of the bearings/housing or you will mess things up as there is a half moon key you cannot remove unless the pulley is off. I can get you in contact with two guys who deal in Case Compacts for parts ect if you like or you can buy them at a local bearing place. replace all of them at once and make sure and check the idler pulley and spindle drive belt while you are in there,,

Two sealed ball bearings as stated by the first poster. Same bearings as used in the same era JD decks. Should be available at JD dealer if you have one local. Easiest source for me. Local bearing store has them too,in several grades, cheap Eastern made on up. Or you can order from salempwr.com, a Case parts source I've used several times. Good guy, OK prices, good parts.

My 446 with a 48" deck had grease-able bearings. When my neighbor bent the center spindle "helping" me cut the grass, I ended up ruining the spindle getting it apart. The original bearings in mine were not sealed.

I have the parts books if you have trouble getting them apart. I'll try to remember to check for parts numbers tonight. Email me if you can't find the numbers, in case I forget. Bob
