Concrete paint

I have a walkway from my driveway to the porch and it needs a face lift. Years ago we tried a stain for concrete and it looked good for a year or so, but no longer. I see there are some self priming paints for exterior concrete but I have no knowledge on how well they stand up. Are there any recommendations for experienced users? What about the cracks between slabs, do they need special treatment?

Paint will stick a lot better to aged concrete if it is etched with acid first. Milkstone remover from a dairy supply will do it and it is no more aggressive than lemon juice.

The bricklayers use Muriatic acid to clean the mortar off new buildings. It should work well for etching the concrete and it's cheap. And it works great for cleaning out old fuel tanks on tractors before coating.

I would be concerned about the "slippery factor" of painted concrete whenever it gets rained on.

You will need to coarse sand to sprinkle on the top after painting while it is wet or your making a slip and slide surface painting concrete. There is a trailer company around Charlotte NC that does it to the floor of their trailers to make them a tread floor. It just dawned on me I think it is Hudson trailer.
