Jan what makes it GM as vrs chev, I was thinking 49 latter they went to a push button door handle , front bumper appears to be factory and heavy duty.

I own a 51 GMC, and it is the last year for the rotating handles that often angle down as in the image. Both GMC and Chevrolet used the same handles from 47 to 51. My passenger side handle (with the door lock below it, only one lock!) is nice and straight. I bought My truck from the original owner (stole it for 100 USD in 1981) I indicated GM to include both Chev. and GMC lines. Jim

Story I was told that GMC division was developed because Canada made US manufacturers sell trucks under a different name there. Think of these truck names: Dodge=Fargo;Ford=Mercury, but GM created a whole separate truck division GMC=General Motors Canada. It developed a whole different line of trucks although they looked like a Chevy body-wise. Example: GMC didn't stick with the "dip style" rod oiling system engine as long as Chevy trucks did.

Here is the start of GMC as a badge. The differences were, and are, substantial between GMC and Chevrolet. The issue was complicated, First combination truck with parts from both lines was in 1936 with a Chevrolet body and Oldsmobile 213 FH six cylinder engine. Before that GMC was heavy trucks and Chevrolet was light 1-1/2 ton or smaller. Badging in Canadian markets, and production detail differences, has always been interesting and probably more political than any thing else. Jim
