Storm Damage Picture

I have a map secured to a bulletin board of north/south Koreas That is close. I am glad you are getting it under control. Jim

We’ve mentioned it, Iowa got hit with that 70-120 mph wind that rolled across 1/3 to half the state. Lots of damage. They say maybe 10 million acres of crops damaged
to some degree, and maybe 25% of the grain bins got damaged.

It’s a really big and bad deal, it was a hurricane without the coast line. But it’s just fly over land, so it gets mentioned by main stream media in a 5 minute blurb and
never to be bothered with again. If this had hit a coastal state there would be 7 days of news coverage and breaking stories every 2 hours......

You know, just a rural deal, not important.

It’s what they call a derecho storm.

Under the right conditions of heat; evaporation; and
cooling air as it rises it creates a strong down burst
that when it hits the ground it becomes straight line
winds that can top 100 mph.

As long as the storm line is moving into warm humid
air it can go on for hundreds of miles. Same
convection that makes a hurricane over warm water.

My son is on his way from a week and a half in Conn. They were released this am and heading to west Illinois trying to help get power on to those that have none. He is also from Mi.

I lucked out on that storm, all the weather warnings on tv and radio kept saying 70 to 100 mph winds. There was some stiff wind but didn't hurt anything but my sweet corn. Foreston Il. got flattened fifteen miles south of me. Rockford area to the east had some twisters, there was four inches of rain to the north and I got two and a half.

However in 1999 straight line wind blew a cattle shed through the upstairs of the house, couldn't take another one of them.
