Put the new pup in the barn last night, don't think he liked that too much. Lol.

Tore the jam right off. Lol. The wood was pretty rotten but still. Don't know where he was but he came as soon as I whistled for him. We did have thunder and lightning last night so he may have been scared. He has really taken to me today and is always at my side when I'm out working.

jn,

We've had a rescue dog for about 5 years. He's part Beagle and part something else. He loves to be outdoors exploring the farm, except if he hears any thunder. He's terrified of thunder or lightning. He hangs right with me wherever I go if it thunders. He actually wants to sit on my lap. Unfortunately, he weighs about 35 pounds so I don't hold him for too long. Good dog.

My mom brought home a red healer years ago. He was a rescue that went through a tornado.

My vet told me that red healers do not like to be alone, they spend time with the Cowboy herding cattle and sleep by his side. Moms dog is forever faithful, he never leaves her side
She had a massive stroke 3 yrs ago and is always by her side.

He's kinda adopted me as a second to mom. He is always with me doing farm chores. At 10pm he has to go home to be with her for the night.

They are different than labs, but I kinda like their personality once you learn their quirks.

The neighbors have a red healer, Not tame at all to strangers. Even bit me once. It bites the chain link fence to our backyard when i had my lab. But i believe they can be good dogs.

Tom, The Bear used to jump in my lap about 20 years ago.
He hates thunder.
He weighs about 75 pounds now and if he jumped into my lap, I would be hurting.

My buddy has a red heeler that is borderline phsyco. He will come over to you for petting, then while petting him he gets a crazy look in his eye, nips at your hand, barks once, and leaves.

He will ride with me when I jump on my friend's ATV though.

I think he has an electrical problem. I tell him he has a floating short.

We had a black lab that chewed her way through a fiberglass garage door 3 times when she was a pup. She hated storms and would chew through the door to get inside. Her mouth would be all bloody but she was determined. We finally got her trained to stay in the barn during a storm. If I was driving a tractor, she would literally run underneath the tractor if it was stormy. Got run over once but still did it. A bad case of stormaphobia.

I've known a couple of red healers that were like that.

I'm normally not afraid of dogs, but one of these in particular was spooky.

He did not like eye contact. Just a glance his way and he would go from playful to ready to defend his territory. I think he would have been very capable of doing serious damage, and the owner was just as crazy!

I have a coon hound. She was a rescue dog from Mississippi. She hates thunder, or cannon firing from a marine base, we hear from 20 miles away. Even rain sets her off. Stan

We got a pup once, locked him in the bathroom when we went out. He ripped up the linoleum. Named him Tasmanian Devil, Taz for short. Was a great dog, killed woodchucks, and no one could have gotten near the kids if he was around.

We have a Blue Heeler and she has the sweetest disposition. She is about 60 lbs. and will love on you for as long as you let her. Very smart and will stay right beside you 24-7. She doesn't even open an eye in a bad thunderstorm and loves to be around guns. Down side she can't ride 10 min. in a car, truck or side-by-side without throwing up. Most of the ranchers around me have Heelers and I see them riding on the tool boxes in back of their trucks. Most seem to be on the hyper side, but ours is actually on the lazy side. They are big time shedders, she gets brushed twice a day (loves it) and there is still hair falling off. Best companion dog we have ever had!!

This is Alice. Healers want to be with their “person “. She loves to ride and is just the best buddy you could ask for. She try’s her best to please. Don’t care what we do as long as we are together. Don’t like loud noises though. Sleeps on the floor by my bed. Very smart - we have to spell some words so she don’t catch on. When someone comes in the yard she makes it sound like she would tear tires off their car but once they open the door then she wants to be petted. She’s very friendly.

I have to watch my 2 year old grand kids cause if they stick there hand close to the fence, im afraid we will be going to surgery.

My first heeler was an escape artist. If there was away out it didnt take long for him to find it. Never tore up the house though. Guess he knew better. Miss that guy.

I've got two healers, different as day and night. Tucker will sit in your lap in the winter when he wants, not when you want, don't try to force the issue. If there's thunder he's so close to you he's behind you. The female Tidda, is a lovable friendly companion, BUT, doesn't allow strangers within 100 yds of her house and gets real serious about strangers getting out of cars or delivery trucks. Both house dogs but not allowed out of the family room or kitchen. I think they make great pets but my wife doesn't, she wants a cat!
