Bolt on radiator tanks

Got a new core from General Radiator and it came with a gasket set. This turned out to be a roll of gasket material with out bolt holes. You must cut it at the corners. Has anyone assembled one like this and what type sealer on the corners? Goes in GMC General so it is a pretty big core with a pretty big price to mess it up. LB
 
I think the last one I did the gasket material was a rubberized cork material. It was sticky back about an inch wide. I just taped the material the core in strips, and used a little silicone sealer at the seams. For the holes I heated up a nail, or a piece of heavy wire, and poked it in the hole around the edge, and had a hole. Might do a coupe practice holes first. Stan
 
Get a set of hole cutters. Another method is a tiny ball peen hammer and tap the gasket into the hole till the hole is cut.
 
I never used that. I did not want to trust a seam. I always made mine from one solid piece of gasket material. Usually thicker than factory material. Use a ball peen hammer and lightly tap the holes and edges out. I stick bolts into the holes as I go to help hold the gasket from shifting around.
 
I have built many bolted core rads in my life working for a rad manufacturer, the gaskets we get are cut on the ends with a male dovetail on the long run gasket and female dovetail on the end or short gaskets so they connect together and then we use the red sticky permatex spray sealer on the gaskets before assy, unsure of the torque values you need for yours but good rule of thumb is to tighten until gasket just starts to squeeze out, there is also a tightening sequence but don't know what yours would be, we start in the center and bounce from side to side on most working out to the ends, hope this helps.
