Running log splitter of backhoe

I need a log splitter.
I have a ford 4500
How can I connect a built log splitter hydraulic lines to the tractor? I will not need to use the tractor functions when its running the splitter.

I would like to use some type of quick connect.

Also what type of tonage do you think I would get?

With a backhoe you have down pressure, so
why not make a big version of the old
vertical splitting stands,that you could
place the boom on and push down with.

Rock

I know they make a splitter to attach to
a skid steer and a buddy of mine turned
it upside down so he could sit in the
skid steer and split wood he would even
squeeze a piece of wood then lift it over
his truck finish splitting it letting it
fall into his truck dont know why you
couldn't attach something like that to
you backhoe

We run ours off the loader circuit on our JD 4600, works great. It has 2500 psi and 11 gpm. I went with a 3.5 dia cylinder to
speed it up and it works well. If your psi and gpm are similar it should work, if you have less pressure you might need a
larger cylinder. You would not split much wood with down pressure, the whole backhoe probably doesn't weigh over 5 ton.

This is the splitter I built for my 4500 using a 4" x 2' ram. Its powered off the bucket tilt using quick disconnect fittings. You can't
use the bucket tilt (it stays locked) while splitting but you can use the loader to raise and lower large logs should you be so inclined.
I usually just fill the bucket then disconnect and dump somewhere. Excellent power. Just have to bungie the bucket dump lever over while
splitting to supply the hydraulics.

That is awesome! Can you tell me or show me what you did at the hydraulic connection point. Wondering what I will need to get it done.

When I retired I moved to a place with few trees and no fireplace so I sold the splitter with fittings and I don't have any pictures.
Standard quick disconnect hydraulic fittings for only one of the hoses. Don't remember if it was for the dump hose or curl.

Here is ours, I bought some quick disconnects and plugged right into to the loader, and ran a long control rod back to the operator position. My wife usually runs the hydraulics, and I carry the wood, but I can run it alone.

It's not rocket surgery. Pick a function, disconnect the two primary hoses supplying that function, install quick connectors of your choice, and connect the wood splitter.
