New cub is running

Got up yesterday and found out the water heater was out. Drained it. Changed elements, lower one had busted. Calcium was built up over it. Cleaned tank. Installed elements, flipped breaker......nope. Breaker wouldn't stay on. Took it out, it had burnt up. Grrr. Got in swapped. Hot water is back! Boys clogged up their toilet and kitchen sink in same day...... Finally got to put the cub back together. It runs! Nice smooth runner!

I was thinking, (not always a good thing) that if you paint it Clemson orange, then with the purple one, you would have Tiger Cubs.

Has it got a one point fast hitch? Looks like it might be new enough to have one, with the stainless IH emblem on the grill. I think it's the same emblem used on the bigger tractors. It's probably worth more than you got for the box blade, if it's the same as the ones on the bigger tractors. They are always getting lost, so restorers are looking for them.

Assuming you have well water. Electric water heaters seem to not like well water so much, good to drain them periodically to get that sediment out. That's pretty cool you got that one running, always see parts and implements for these handy little tractors!

You are getting enough that you can fix some up, flip and put in the cookie jar for a newer one.

MY 6610 open station would do anything you want.

I am picking on you about 6610, even though great tractor. I have it sold if I decide to buy newer one with cab. I can use it anytime I want, which I enjoy during nice weather, but will share my cab tractor. We have a great group of neighbors that share work and equipment, only rule if you break it you fix it.

I think it did have the hitch on it but guy I bought it from took it off. I've been wondering if he would sell it.....

You actually will be happy once you cull the herd and take that cash to buy tractors that really serve a purpose.

Lol. I hear ya. Right now we are having fun doing what we are doing. Someone has to keep this old stuff running a while longer.

Billy....city water...out of a well! Just as bad. We have huge calcium carbonate quarries just a few miles away. Probably doesn't help.

I just turned 60, been working on equipment all my life, reaching point where I do not want to do that any more. I will keep my MH44 EFI and Cub Cadet 123 for playing, but get get fewer working tractors.

I understand that. I'm almost 50 and kids are about all gone. Got a few less bills and enjoy a good hobby. Not in to golf or fishing. Don't drink.... Gotta spend money on something. And my wife enjoys it too.

Same here, working on things is exciting to you, I have done all my life so not as fun to me. I want to focus on new things like tuning the EFI44 and designing new things. I want to reinvest some of the money I made selling my company or pay taxes on it. I can upgrade tractors, get rid of old one and really not cost anything due to taxes I will save. I also plan to put in tile this year, that will pay back over the next few years.

Wow, usually with municipal water these water heaters fare a little better, but sounds no different with the city well water.
Only thing you can do is drain it more often, see if that helps keep the sediment down. These darned things always seem to lose an element at the worst possible time.
