Son is well ready to drive tractor. Mama thinks he is too young.
Shredding stalks is about as easy as anything to start in.

RRF.... Great story. Teach all the things most of us take for granted. I know you will though. We need a new generation of modern farmers. Wingnut
Ohhhh... High five him from all of us on the YT forum.

nothing wrong with that. out of harms way, in a cab , and has a handle on thing, ooh steering wheel on things! and dont have to step on a w6
clutch to stop it like i had to at that age.

We don't shred cornstalks. Just run a finish disc over them after fertilizing in the spring and prior to no
til beans.

As stated below in a cab makes it alot
safer.I taught my kids,You do not leave
the tractor seat unless the pto is shut
off the implement is lowered all the way
and the tractor is shut off and brakes
locked. Let him go and he will have a ball

My boys helping me.

Put that cell phone away you do not need a cell phone to drive a tractor keep your mind on what yu are doing

Good lookin' young man ..... and his smart phone at hand, just in case his girlfriend happens to call him ..... LOL !!!

He does not own a cell phone. Are you seeing the baler monitor, or my cell phone in the mirror?

I think you see the baler monitor, Gene. It is mounted in front of the steering wheel. He does not have a cell phone. We will not give him one until he is 13, and he will only keep it if he maintains a B average in school

Started in third grade baling straw by seventh grade i was on
my own rumning the same 4020 i have now started drilling
grain that year and doing fall tillage and spraying andrunning
the lely . They have to start somewhere why wait until they
are 35 that’s why we’ve got all these kids we have today
hiding in their safe space

You guys are truly blessed. Such smart young men. Both yours and RRF. I'm hoping you throw him some green if you get my drift. That's a little more than the usual chores. Many will disagree with me. A wage ( something) should be paid for working in adverse conditions having to use above normal thinking. Wingnut

Teach him how to stop first. Whether it engine shut down or stopping forward momentum. Watch him do those things first and when YOU are confident that he can do it, then teach how to make it go.

Then how can you check out whats on YT? I also use mine to listen to music. I can't get a good station on the radio.

I see how he has to tilt his head to see around the
center post! Lol😂😂😂

Well, he has to learn to make it GO before he can stop it.
When I started driving tractor alone, I learned on a CASE L. You had to pull the hand clutch lever back to get it to move. At 8 yro It took all the muscle I had to pull it back, but when it lurched ahead the clutch would lock over center. Stopping was easier. Put both hands on steering wheel and place foot against clutch handle and push forward with foot.
The first dilema that I had was when I turned too short with a 16' spring tooth harrow and the diagonal cables extending out to the ends of the equalizer hitch caught the rear tire and came up over the fender. Wheeeu, it took a bit to remember what I had to do to stop. Luckily nothing bent bad including the hitch and fender.
Just a couple more war wounds on the tractor and a learning experience that I learned to not repeat.
The rear of the fenders already had a few battle wounds before I learned to drive and I didn't catch holey he!! for what happened. Me thinks someone older than me might have did the same thing. HeHe

It was a big issue on here awhile ago I remember, i was just kidding about it though. No harm intended!

You’re fine I think its funny 😄 . Between the socp and yt dot and ytosha we have something to cause trouble with

Kid next door has all you braggin' guys beat six differernt ways. He's only 2 years old and he is fixing computers in his bedroom ...... LOL !!!

Loren, I'll bet that most of us have pulled that harrow on the fender trick. I did it one time with my girlfriend, soon to be wife, riding the fender. She didn't get a scratch, but I thought for sure that I had ruined her.

Tried to teach my youngest to drive the
semi. She more interested in her
ipad...maybe when she turns 5!

Well, that very same thing happened to my grandfather when he was 80 years old. I learned from that.

Safe space... my safe space was on the tractor.. if i was on the tractor or in the shop working on farm equipment i usually could avoid the Butt chewing...

chcase has it nailed. Teach him to follow those rules--NO EXCEPTIONS! Do that and he will be fine. He has to learn sometime, and that's how WE learned.
