8 N motor overhaul

I'm pretty sure it will exceed the valve of the tractor. Might be a good time to upgrade to something newer ? Take the money you will spend on an overhaul and add in the value your tractor has now and you are well on the way to a newer Ford model.

The overhaul for everything was under $500?. If you have someone else do it, its going to be more. Ours needed machining done and we had a friend do it. It was my grandfathers tractor, thats why we put money into it.

Are you doing this your self?

If so, here are some parts prices, but there will be machine shop work, as in turning the crank, and grinding the valve seats.

And there will always be other routine things you will run across that will only be common sense to replace while you are there, typically the clutch, hoses, radiator, water pump, etc.

Then throw in a few unexpecteds...

I ask if you are DIY, because to find a shop even interested in taking the job will be difficult unless you find someone just looking to tinker. Even then it will likely exceed the value unless it has sentimental value as a family heirloom.
Overhaul Kits

Last one I done was little over 2000 that was parts and outside labor. Needed crank shaft all new valve seats and valves, guides, springs. Bored for thick sleeves. Needed camshaft but didnt replace, slot for dist worn bad. This was 20 years ago. After that I quit doing overhauls, guy thought I was his banker.

have heard of as high as $5,000 where shop had antique engine reputation.

I just did a Farmall Cub engine this past winter. The machine shop bill for boring the cylinders, turning the crank, installing new valve guides, grinding the valve seats, and re-installing the camshaft was a bit over $900. (I delivered the block with crank removed but valves and cam were still in place.) Parts including pistons/rings, rod bearings, main bearings, gaskets, etc was about $500. My labor was free. I believe an 8N uses sleeves instead of a bored block so that might change the rebuild cost somewhat but this would give you a ballpark figure.

A complete overhaul kit will cost you 500.oo-700.oo. Thats sleeves, pistons, rings, main and rod bearings, new valves, guides and springs, pin bushings, gaskets and an oil pump overhaul kit.
Getting machine work done will add another 500.oo- Boil out the block, R&R sleeves, valve job on the block, turn the crank undersize as needed, resize and bush the connecting rods.

Add another 500.oo for ancillaries- water pump, starter, generator and distributor rebuild kits, hoses, belts etc., etc.

Do the assembly labour yourself- its a very simple, basic engine. Take your time and read a manual or watch youtube videos if you get stuck

I would expect a couple grand, really make sure this particular tractor is worth that to you, as it could go towards something more useful.
