Need the diesel experts Ford 1210

Trying to get my dad’s 1210 working. I got it to start but lots of smoke. Black at first very heavy then white. Still heavy. I pulled the air filter and the
smoke subsided considerably. Oil does not seem to have coolant in it. But it has definitely been overfilled.
I plan to change the oil and get a new air filter. It does start easily.
My experience with Diesel engines is very limited. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

you may have diluted engine oil, that will explain oil being over full and the smoking as if it is like I am thinking, easy to test with a paper shop towel, let the oil off the dipstick drip on the clean shop paper towel, if it wicks out from the drip and gets lighter in color as it does you have your answer

Now that you mention it the oil didn’t look right. Seemed thin. I’ll try an oil change.
How would the oil get diluted?

Thanks for the help. I think I’m on the right track. Now I just have to isolate the problem and hopefully find the parts.

You should be able to find the parts fairly easy. If you need injection pump repair, I would recommend sending it to Dieseltech on here, he does very good work. Good luck with your repair!
