Has ground to a halt . The piece that holds the brushes the wires broke off field assembly not sure whether I can solder them back on or not .

Had to take them out to get it apart so I could see how these wires are attached. I think I can probably grind that little lug off where the wires used to attach then re solder them on

It’s been apart before I’ve had this thing glowing hot more than a few times I’d imagine the heat and I took it apart wrong had a lot to do with it . Gear reduction starter off a 3020

Ok I see. You need to flip those brush hold down springs out. Then remove brushes and then remove the brush holder cover. Ya need to resolder them.

I’m hoping I can pull it off I’ll have to go get another little bottle of oxygen for my torch

Ya. Use small tip . Clean good , use flux, I put solder on end on bat. Cable on 560 today. I used the small propane bottle. But for that you need a really small fine flame.

What type of solder do I use ? Had to solder the lead On the field stud on my 24 volt starter one time it got loose and I twisted it off trying to tighten it from the outside .

Absolutely silver solder like Moresmoke said.
I can buy it by the stick with the flux on it very cheap at my welding supplier.
