Merc From Above

Took advantage of a mild groundhog day to take the 52 Merc out for some exercise. First time since Nov. 27. Time sure flies. The old flathead was a little sluggish to start but eventually it did and ran fine after warming up. Made a few miles up and down the long driveway and tried out the drone active tracking feature again. It follows and shoots video pretty good. At least I didn't drive into the ditch trying to fly and drive at the same time. :)

Amazing what you can do with that. The gently rolling land shows up some during the lower elevations of the drone.

Thanks guys. I was just a little disappointed that the clouds rolled in because it looks so much better when the sun is out. I took too long running the 2140 and snowblower to make a clearing so I could drive out of the shed. Clouds moved in by mid afternoon as a new system is going to bring precipitation overnight and then return to cold weather.

that looks like a nice vehicle The lane looks like what we used to lovingly call a 1/2 mile lane. Nice overall view of the farm land.

Nice photo. When I was in high school in the early 60's, my friend had a number of older Fords with the flathead v-8's. One thing I do remember is that they kicked out a LOT of heat and in the winter, it was much appreciated. Does yours do the same?

Plenty of heat on the outside from the flathead and the air cooled Mercomatic but not so much inside. I've got the heater core disconnected. Just from memory as a kid I think the heater was maybe adequate at best. Plastic frost shields on the rear window and maybe the sides were essential to keep the inside from fogging up with five of us in there. Typical of the times.
Nowadays theres just me and I don't go far with it in winter. Plus I don't start it unless it is mild weather.

Wow Rusty. Frost shields on the inside of the car windows. Another memory jogger for me as my parent's car had them.
Thanks.

We had a 1950 Ford 4 door sedan that could be ordered with only the standard defroster, the standard heater, or the "Magic Aire" heater. My dad ordered ours with the Magic Aire heater which was a big improvement over the old Model A which had a heater that bolted onto the exhaust manifold and the radiator fan blew air through it which entered the cabin through a 2' hole in the firewall by the passenger's feet that had a little door to turn it on and off although it was still too hot in the summer so that meant unbolting the cast iron heater contraption from the top of the manifold. Were those "The Good Old Days"? That '52 Mercury was the cat's meow. Like a little Lincoln.

My dad had a cheap 56 Ford, 4 door,6 cylinder engine, the body wasnt much but had had a good gutty motor and a good heater, and 12 volt, started -.30 below F*, but i liked chev's, when i got older!
