John Deere has failing memory??

Was trudging 'cross the internet recently when I stumbled upon something strange, at least to me. If I didn't know better, I'd almost think the Deere Corp. had trouble remembering what model numbers they had already used -- or maybe this one number holds some special significance to them. Any ideas?

Will the REAL John Deere model 70 [i:7f828ee98f]please[/i:7f828ee98f] stand up? Seriously though, did they really have this much trouble before deciding to switch to 4-digit model numbers?? *lol*

It’s was a common problem with big farm families. Even at 8
roster spots Ma got us mixed up. JD did it 9 times.

Well the two cylinders are the same tractor ones a standard
ones a row crop ones a toy not made by John Deere at all . I
have an international 370 disc type that In fiats model list and
about 3 pages comes up . The same thing happens on John
Deere

I have a 4700 utility tractor. The first time I asked for an oil filter, the parts man gave me a huge oil filter for a 4700 sprayer. Until that moment, I had no idea John Deere had reused the same model number within a
couple of years.

You need to consider the number of Deere products. Everything from Ag,Industrial, lawn and garden, and consumer products. In order to not reuse numbers you new lawn mower would have a model number like 111111. So reusing numbers does sound better. A lawn and garden dealer will not give your 4700 compact a 4700 sprayer filter although I was once asked by a new parts man if my 5010 tractor was a compact. In hindsight in compared to today's big tractors maybe it is. Tom

Fast, probably the reason you didn’t know about it is that it is for compact utility tractors. Looks like it was made 1988 - 2004, see link. I think the picture makes it look bigger than it is or your mind just assumes it it normal farm tractor size. Your not supposed to know everything about John Deeres just the ones covered in you YT handle. Or just resort to the fact that no one can know everything. ..except tractor vet.. ; > )
JD 60, 70 & 70A Comp. Ut. Loaders

You would think with all the Millions of DOLLARS DEERE spends for marketing mope salaries they could
create non-repeating model numbers, I don't give a dang how many similar models of tractors, implements,
combines, etc they produce. Obviously Marketing doesn't give a hoot how much confusion it causes all
across the company. I have a natural dislike for marketing people anyhow, this lazyness on their part
just agrivates my hatred.

International Harvester never had NEAR as many repeat models as Deere did.

There is nothing confusing about it . How many model 70 John Deere do you own ? You can’t figure out which one it is?

Yes! Why waste a perfectly good number. Kinda like Husqvarna with sometimes 10 or more parts lists for the same number saw.
