A question on forum etiquette.

I've been lurking here a little while, and have gotten some good info in the Massey forum, but I have something I would like clarified. I haven't noticed any "build" threads like I see on old vehicle forums. Not to say they aren't here, I just haven't seen them. I enjoy buying old equipment and getting it into working shape. Currently, I have 2 1100s and one 35 Massey Ferguson that are being worked back into daily use. I'm also part of bringing a 2705 Massey back to the field. There might be an 1135 in the future, but that's still very up in the air. I like to take pictures of the progress, but I don't have anywhere to share with like minded individuals.

What I would like to do is document the progress of all these tractors as they come back to life, well, that's an exaggeration on the 35, it had been basically restored before I got it, but it had been sitting for 5 years or so.

Where should I post this thread? I would call it "old 1100's Massey Thread". Should it go into the Massey forum or could I put it here in Tractor Talk? I would like to put it where it would get the most traffic, but I don't want to cause any problems.

If I could get some feedback, I would appreciate it. Thanks,

I think that falls under tractor talk, put em right here! Most everyone would like to watch your progress, many will offer advise and encouragement and then there are always a few that will find fault with anything you do, just ignore them and happily wrench away. Eagerly awaiting pictures!!

Post it here so we can all see.
I dont go to the brand specific forums and love seeing those that post there progress here.

One of the reasons you dont see the long term threads like that is the legacy of classic view that some of us cling to here. Threads fall off the bottom of
the page, and are forgotten.

Not an issue on forums that bring new commentary back to the top.

This is the busiest place to post.

Being directly tractor related it will fit well and be welcomed.

Start a new topic each day or it will fall off the bottom of the page and not be seen.

Keep the subject title short. Something about long titles confuses the software and scatters the post.

Pictures are more than welcome!

Thank you for your ideas and thank you for your seriousness toward this topic. Especially taking a tractor from a total wreck to a nice runinng and
operating unit. A step by step approach. Wingnut

I think maybe a separate forum "of some kind" would work best. Being a Classic user myseld, yes the topic would disappear, but if I were a Modern user, would I want to see something showing up again and again for months and months and possible years? Maybe there would be some other way it could be done, maybe ask the site people about possibilities.

That's the best part about modern--that it stays near the top and you don't have to go searching for it.
As far as a build thread, to me it kind of depends. It's fun to see a project as it progresses. On the other hand, there are some threads where every time the guy sands off a fender or fills a little rust hole they have to come on to tell us about it and post 8 pictures of it. To me that gets a little tedious and boring.
But to each his own. If that turns you on, go for it. The rest of us can choose whether to read it or not.

Well alright then! Im glad to see that my thread idea will be welcome. Ill probably put it here since this is the most active area.

Yall will have to bear with me on getting the hang of the forum style though. I use the modern view because its what Im used to. The classic view is something from before my time I think and if modern view doesnt bump to the top Ill have to figure things out.

Thanks for the kind reception, I will try to get my thread up this weekend. Ill have to round up a few pictures and write a lot more backstory than most people care about reading. I hope the thread is worth it. I havent been documenting everything Ive had to do because there was nowhere to share it, but that will change now.

Your best bet might be YouTube as a repository for the video. the videos on here are really short, and the big advantage would be the greater
audience there. Linking to YouTube from here is actually the most common method of access. Jim

Rich .... I agree, or a pile of melting snow, a pile of snow that isn't melting, the family cat, a rotten fence post, a flat tire, a dandelion or a dog sleeping. All that interesting stuff that we love to see ..... I usually avoid them myself but I'm a grumpy guy.

If you need to find your original thread, you can always save the link to it. And any replies will take you back there if you opt to be notified by email. Just a warning, though, it might blow up your email if you get a lot of replies.

I look forward to seeing your work on the tractors.

Another site that I visit regularly has a forum titled "what's in your shop", and seems to be where this type of topic gets posted most often!

I was a little bleary eyed when I got caught up on the thread earlier today as I was up kind of late last night. I misunderstood the classic/modern thing. Ill stick with modern with my apologies to those who will lose the thread in classic mode.

Thanks for the replies, suggestions and advice. I hope the thread will deliver.

This too.

(quoted from post at 16:29:53 03/10/21) Even though the thread will fall off the page you could start a new one part 2, part 3 and so on.

Then if someone sees part 3 and wants to see parts 1 and 2 they have to go hunting for it.

One thread in modern which always rises to the top with new activity is a far better solution.

Classic is a mess plain and simple.
