comparing the case 830 diesel, oliver 1600 diesel and allis chalmers d19 diesel,
which one would you like?
any one have, had or used one of these in past?
good, or bad experience with any of these, i just curious, i havent seen much written about these 3 tractors

thank you for your answer!

The Allis will have more hp and the Oliver less hp than the Case. I don't know much about either of the other two, but have spent a lot of hours on a case 830. There are two versions of the 830 and each of those had a choice of two clutch types. The early eagle hitch version had cases answer to the theee point and was a lower platform like the older 88 Oliver and the d19 allis. The newer comfort king had the high platform like the Oliver and the later allis models. The case could come with either a standard dry clutch or the case-o-matic drive which is a torque converter system similar to an automatic in a car or pickup but with a manual lock up so it will pull like a dry clutch but can be unlocked to use the converter when needed. You won't find a tougher or more reliable tractor. The short comings of the case are the steering is power assist so not quite as powerful as the others and the brakes need to be kept up to work good. Both are adequate, but some others are better.

Have a D 19 Allis. Like it because it is a pretty simple tractor. The only problem that showed up lately is it has started jumping out of third gear when coasting. Will pull all day in that gear. Drove a 930 Wheatland some and never drove a Oliver.

I have spent some time on a Case 830 diesel with Case-O-Matic. Some folks like the Case-O-Matic. I personally DID NOT.

I have a 730,830,930 and 1030 Case, so I probably am biased towards the Case tractors. I have run a Cockshutt/Oliver tractor a few times and really liked if. Nice power power steering and I liked the over under shift. The AC D19 diesel tractors had issues with the 6 cylinder Buda engine, with cracking heads. The gas models were I understand a decent tractor for the day. The Case tractors were a nice riding comfortable tractor, with strong engines, and easy on fuel in the diesel models. Never had a gas 30 series except a 430, and it was not too bad

I like Olivers. So I would take the 1600.I have little experience with a Case, even less with an Allis. However,I have heard those long stroke Case tractors will really pull.

He's not exactly burning up the field is he. Here is a video of one of my grandsons driving my 830 discing. It was his first time driving.

As mentioned, Randy Lund probably has as much experience with the 1600 as anyone on here. The 1600 was basically a modernized 880. We had the early version of the 830 with the Case-O-Matic. It proved to be a good tractor and a good cold weather starter. It was a much clumsier feeling tractor than a 1650. Was a fairly heavy tractor for a 60 some hp. tractor. Didn't particularly like the Case-o-Matic, but didn't hate it either. Never owned a D-19, but a dealer demonstrated one here during corn cutting side of a 4010. Pop didn't buy it (nor the 4010) but was impressed with the tractor. Personally, I would go with the 1600, because I've never owned one, and because I would prefer the better handling of the Oliver. But if someone handed me any of the three, I wouldn't feel like I got taken.

A lock up torque converter seems to me to be ideal. Wish I had one on my backhoe. On the road going down hill it doesn't hold back.

I have a 1600 and a D19 never had an 830.I love the 1600 drives nice and easy to operate, but its no match for the D19 in power and shear dragging ability.1600 has true LPTO D19 uses the hand clutch takes some used to getting used to,both good tractors in my opinion and I'd imagine the Case is too.

God this hurts, being an Oliver guy, but an 830 Case seems like quite a bit more tractor that a 1600. I think I would go with the Case, they can be bought cheaper than most of the other brands too, though I would run away from one quickly if it is weighed down much, as somebody may have tried pulling 6 bottoms with it. I heard of a lot of guys trading in their 880 Olivers and getting a 1600, then wanting the 880s back because of a lack of power with the 1600. D19 would be good comparison power wise to the 830 but not many of those around, so I cannot say much good or bad on those. The diesels were prone for cracking heads though, something to keep in mind.

The 1600 Oliver had a smaller engine than the 880, the 1600 had a 242, the 880 had a 265,my experience is the 880 pulls circles around it,but the 1650 had a 265 !!the Allis had a 262, but run a bit faster than the Oliver, the first d-19 i ever seen was chopping corn at least 12 feet tall, a single row chopper it did pretty good,in 1st gear!

I would prefer the Oliver. The Case 830 had a really good tuff engine. I don't think you could wear one out. I would stay away from a 830 Case-o-Matic. The Case tractor was not as user friendly as the Oliver. I have only been around one D19. I was not impressed about it at all.

No hes not but the guy who posted said his dad told him to go slow not a bad load for 66 horsepower. I pull a little bigger disc and a big roller with my 3020 about 4.6 mph . I like that harrow hes got

Thats a nice video really moving along . I like your tractor a lot better no power steering squeal when he turns

Dad bought an 830 gas new thought since the combine with the D-19 engines ran cheap that the case would be similar with similar size engines. He got a surprise when he started chopping hay and it needed feeding again about 3 hours after starting. Dealer came out and weaned it to about half that. He was happy then. I would have bought the diesel at the time. Good durable tractor with power steering that worked good for us. I know the other dealers all tried to sell theirs was better. I liked the tractor never ever liked the gas engine. I would get a sore throat from the fumes every spring. Never was around the olly or the allis.

I can't leave this hanging out here to be archived. The 880 and 1600 had the same displacement. The 265s were diesels. The gas was a smaller displacement. When the 1600 came out, buyers were complaining that the gassers didn't have as much power as their old 880s, so Oliver put larger pistons in them. If anybody complained to a dealer, Oliver would pay dealers to upgrade the early ones to the larger bore at no cost to the owner.

As far as the Case VS Oliver thing, if the 830 was a Comfort King, it might be a draw, but the early ones that you have to sit down inside of, straddling everything, you'd be begging to have the Oliver back if you had used the Oliver first.

Thats what i was talking about, the cattle feeder neighbor bought a new, 1600 the first one the dealer got in, they had a 880,Supper99,that 1600didnt have as much as the 880 did,not sure if they upgraded the engine or not.
