So sad to read...

he had to be brain dead! kids think lots of things are fun but dont realize the danger. really sad.

The adult was probably thinking, "I ain't gonna let no Safety Nazi tell me what to do! We rode in the bucket as kids ALL... THE... TIME! It'll be fine! Me and my kids are gonna have FUN!"

I love threads like this. Everyone holier than thou. Look down their noses in judgement at this poor guy who now has the loss of two souls on his conscience, forever. Then in the next breath they complain about "overbearing rules" at tractor shows which are designed to prevent EXACTLY what happened. "WHYYYYY WON'T THEY LET US HAVE FUNNNNN?????"

I operate a backhoe for a living and always move and operate very slowly around people.the thing is I cant see anything inside the bucket from the cab and if it falls out while moving its hard to stop even while traveling at a slower speed

You never know, posting this may have alerted someone to the danger. I have done foolish things and got away with them after some close calls. My heart goes out to the guy who has to live with this.

I've always said that if you can imagine something tragic and deadly happening in any situation, it can (and does and will) happen. Very sad .... the can't happen to me mindset that I think we all have exhibited occasionally.

I'm thinking maybe the operator tilted the bucket accidentally in the wrong direction?? I know on my Cat pushing the lever forward tilts the bucket up

What was the adult thinking answers it all, they certainly weren't thinking about the children in the bucket. I've done that numerous times with my children when they were growing up but my mind was focused completely on them. I only drove slow and if there was some malfunction where the bucket dropped you could be assured the tractor would be at a complete stop before they came out of the bucket. When my daughter was very small my wife would ride with her to make sure she didn't fall out.

Naw, probably bounced them out. Nothing but a tragedy all the way around. Sure the guy is an idiot ,but then we have all done stupid things.
Yes the operator needs to pay his freight, but why crucify the poor bustard?
These kids need justice, not revenge. It will serve no purpose to overly punish an otherwise productive citizen.

Yeah, except you can imagine something tragic happening no matter what you do. You can imagine yourself right into not getting out of bed in the morning, but then you can imagine something tragic happening while you're in bed, so you can't even do that...

or he merely drove over a bump or pothole and they got launched out of the bucket.

How can I say this in a politically correct manner? Well I can't so here goes! Rides like this is probably common practice in their native country.

In my first post I didn't mean to diminish the tragedy. It's still horrible and the family is suffering tremendously.

The news of the punishment will probably be spread far and wide and hopefully will deter someone else from doing the same stupid thing. So yes it would serve a purpose.

Ahh the good ol nanny state better lock that guy up and make him watch the lame stream news media 24 hours a day every day for 5 years . And assault with a deadly weapon wtf
