Clunking noise John Deere 2440

My John Deere 2440 has started making a clunking noise on the right rear side. I feel like it is more to the outside near the end of the final drive. It happens randomly and I can't correlate it with shifting or braking. I'm thinking the final drive bearing might be going bad but not sure. No grinding,, no screeching, just a clunking pop. Anyone experienced something like this?
Thanks,
Chris

FIRST thing is to make sure that all nuts and bolts that attach hub or wheel center AND all bolts that attach the wheel center to the rim are TIGHT.

The planetary gear in the final drives do have some backlash. If the rims slide a bit inside the rim clamps it can give a loud clunk every time the torque on the wheel reverses.

Must be a JD thing. I bought a new 2210 and it started clunking the first week. I took it back to the dealer twice and they just let it sit on the lot and didn't do anything to it. I then notified the corporation and they just said take it back to the dealer. I
finally quit making payments on it and it went back to them. I will never buy another JD tractor new or used.

Sounds like my JD dealer. Of all tractor dealers I've dealt with over the decades, the local Spokane dealer has been the worst.

(quoted from post at 15:26:08 05/18/21) If its not anything loose on the wheel
jack it up slowly and check the axel
bearings.

Wheel was loose! We checked the bearing and it was quiet and yet the tire looked a bit odd as we ran the tractor with the wheel jacked up. Stuck the air impact on the bolts on the inside of the wheel and they turned 3/4 of a turn. Took it out and it ran without any clucks.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Chris

Back in the 70's when I worked at the Deere dealership my Boss hauled a fairly new 4430 about 30 miles away to the shop that had a rear end noise,, as he was unloading it I saw that the wheel weights were loose,,that was the clunking noise....
