JD401-A Reverser Problem

I only have forward and reverse, NO neutral. The manual says there should be a neutral, could the linkage be wrong somewhere?

I think you're correct that reverser linkage could be the problem. That reverser linkage has a history of failures.

Like TX Jim said they are notorious for issues with the linkage to the reverser, most common being a cracked roll pin on the tube underneath the tractor that goes to the reverser control.

Probably 10 + points to wear in the linkage between the lever and the control, a little play in each adds up to a lot of slop.

Once you are used to the machine you will probably find you don't need or use a functioning neutral position on the lever.

Not all reversers have a neutral position..My 310B does not,if your lever does not have a flip down latch, it will not have a neutral position.
