Herbicide and pesticide giant Bayer has announced it will replace glyphosate-based
products in the U.S. residential lawn

Sounds like Bayer still has a legal battle in the courts.

Perhaps others can talk about that.

That would be a good thing. Most of the folks using these chemicals have no idea about mixing strength and use way more than needed. Then complain about ground water and other contamination with these chemicals. While seeing the sprayer going in the field next to them and have no idea of the amount being used just complain about those evil farmers. Some of those lawn spraying companies are no better with application rate either. Must get those 2 dandelions in the yard.

I agree with you 100% ! Reading what I do on these forums, I'm convinced that NO ag chemical should be sold to ANYBODY who isn't certified. All the information anybody needs is on the label by law, but it's just easier to get on the internet and ask for opinion or just skip the instructions and guess, than it is for most people to do it right. Everything would be restricted use if I had my way about it.

In New Jersey, everything applied to ag land is restricted use to be applied by licensed applicator only, even if it only has a caution label, and records of purchase and application, including rate, must be kept. Now Joe Schmuckatelli in the development next to me can go buy as much glyphosate, 2,4-D, MCPP and whatever else with a caution label that he wants and put it on his 4 acre mini-estate at whatever rate he wants as many times as he wants without keeping any records whatsoever, as long it's not agricultural. Of course he doesn't wear any PPE while doing it, either and DEP can't enforce him, but if they catch a licensed applicator not using appropriate PPE, they can enforce.
