combine windrows

I made a short video showing how I leave the oat straw in windrows for baling without having to remove the straw chopper from the 7721 pull type combine. I only ever removed that straw chopper once the year we had problems with flax straw wrapping on it. Very heavy to handle even with help. This way I can leave it on the combine.

On my Massey 850 u dont remove the chopper. I just remove the belt and pull the chopper back and straw falls right on the ground. Takes like 2 minutes or less to slide back or ahead. Just hang the belt and go.

Yes, that was one of the few things I liked about the 550 Massey I ran for a few years.

Seams Massey is pretty well obsolete now. Around here its
pretty well all new Holland. Few j d s and case ih. Them old
masseys work good though.

Some people had good luck with the Masseys but my 550 had problems. The last good Massey I had was the 510 Western Special.

My dad had a old section of Draper canvas he wrapped around the end of the combine. And the canvas kept the straw in a very neat row, and a small square baler pickup could easily handle the wind row with no raking. He had no straw chopper, but didnt like the way the straw would scatter on a windy day, this solved his problem. Sure enjoy watching your pull type eating up those swaths.

My dad used to take the knives out, they were attached to a long bar, all came out at once. On a JD self propelled, maybe a 55? The first one had a Hercules 6 cylinder engine, which tended to overheat. The last one was a 105, big improvement. He sold the big farm in 76, but had a small hobby farm until he passed in 92.
