Runaway 504 case engine

On Monday I started a 2470 case with a 504 engine and it revved really high before I got it shut down. Sure enough I got some really good advice here. I took a cover off the pump, started spraying and carefully working the rack until it freed up. After I got it freed up, started it up and it would idle at 900 rpm. Thank you Dieseltech and all others that replied.. I really appreciate your help. B. Jones. North central Missouri.

The best way to free one or more stuck plungers is to loosen ALL injector line nuts so engine will not start. Crank engine and gently pull/push the fuel stop at the same time, this will take several tries. If plunger/s are not stuck badly, you should eventually see the fuel supply turn on/off at ALL injectors with operation of the fuel stop. Once that is seen, tighten the lines and start engine. This method only works IF plunger/s are not stuck badly, pump MAY need torn completely down to free up the stuck parts. NEVER use a hammer to free a stuck rack, or the gear segment teeth may be broken.
