Clear silicon RTV applied on a Solvent clean plug wire (roughed up a bit with 60 grit) then taped with vinyl tape to hold while it cures will be heat resistant, and a good insulator. jim

Is this a preventative measure or is the spark making its way out to a shorter ground path? If it is sparking through there is a possibility that the carbon core is burning away. Once the gap of burnt out carbon gets to wide the spark is going to find another path to ground. Also that will make the coil gain saturation and possibly damage some other component. Of course all this means nothing if your tape is NOT trying to stop a spark that is making its way out of the side of the plug wire.

Wire was the initial failure, high resistance, but now the coil is shot. If you pull that wire off, the coil tower will come off. See it all the time on Hyundai/Kia.
