Motor Oil Shortage

Are any of you seeing a motor oil shortage in your area. I went into the local NAPA store this past week to buy some 15w -40 diesel engine oil. Sign on the door said Shell Rotella $22.95 a gal, when it's gone, it's gone. I said what's the deal on the Rotella? Manager said just what it says, we can't get any more. We have 9 stores and we are all about out. I said what about Delvac, No. What about Napa Fleet Plus, No. We can't get any anywhere. Are any of you seeing this in your area?

basically the same thing i posted about a month ago on 15-40. pretty scarce. starting to agree with willie nelson ... the world has gone to pot. but as long as u have beer for the horses and whiskey for the men we can survive a bit longer.

Oh ya been playing this game for a few months.. We just keep checking and buy when we can.. price goes up about every other day.. doesnt matter quarts gal 5's drums even bulk just keeps climbing..

I bought a 5 gallon pail of trans hyd 2 weeks ago. Im hoarding. Didnt need it now, but will in about May, and dont know if it will be there in May, or what price.

My understanding is the additives they put in base oil are in short supply, there is enough raw oil around but not the extras that get added. But only what I hear, I dont know nothing.

Farm herbicides will be real interesting. Lot of them are prepaid for, but no idea if they will get manufactured.

Nitrogen for corn and wheat crops likewise.

As mentioned above, it is the additive shortages. I have been battling this since October. My Mobil reps tell me this wont end soon. We use 2500-2800 gallons of 15/40 per month, and the bigger consumers buying in bulk were getting pinched months ago. Its not just lubricant additives either, we buy a lot of additives that get blended into the cement we pump into the annulus of oil and gas wells and they are even tighter right now. It is an uphill battle to engineer new slurries that will meet our customers demands to keep our work. A big percentage of these additives are from Germany and France as do a good portion of lubricant additives.

Around here Rotella is near impossible, we had plenty of Delvac until everyone bought it because they couldn't get Rotella. RK has lots of Lucas 15 40 which I know nothing about except a person can pretty well trust Lucas with lubrication.

Yeah, i got a truck driver friend told me about the 15w-40 being short 4 months ago,, and i didnt believe him !!

I check out the diesel oil whenever I'm in Wally World, and the shelves are usually almost bare. AutoZone isn't much better. Hopefully I'll be able to pick something up before my next oil change is due in a couple of months.

I use Castrol Synthetic and like soooooooooo many other items THERES A SHORTAGE AND BARE SHELVES grrrrrrrrrrrrr Lets hope n pray the supply chain crisis and record inflation and crime and high gas prices turn around in 2022, 2021 was hard on the country WELL DRATS

Best wishes yall take care now

Here at my Ford Dealership we can't get
Motorcraft Diesel 15W40 , 10W30
Ford is working on a replacement
but right now we are out

I bought and took home, next years fertilizer back in August fearing a price increase and short supply. I wasn't disappointed in my decision. It happened!

About the same time my local dealer couldn't get the ryegrass seed I needed. He said it all comes from Oregon and is at the bulk facility in Texarkana but he can't get them go bag it up and put it on a truck for shipment here. Went to another dealer that I seldom use and he had stocked up earler in the year and had plenty.

No rebates available on the Mobil website either.

Usually Rural King has a sale on Delvac, combine that with rebates, makes for cheap oil.

We'll see....think I have enough for this year, better check

I saw this coming and loaded up on Delvac in 2.5 gal. jugs. Local WM has empty shelves.....I always look. The other thing is chainsaw chain lube. TSC had it for 6.00 & sometimes 5.00 per gal., it's now 10.99 and hard to find. Bought a jug at ACE for 16.99. I expect it to get worse!

TSC shelves are bare here and have been for a couple of months now at least on name brand oils. They get a very small amount if any every once in a while. They had 5 gallon buckets of Delvac last fall and I bought a few then.

Shell is not packaging any motor oil. Blaming it on the Additives. Apparently all of the additives are obtained from Lubrizol. They had a plant burn last year. Connected??? Probably.

I saw some oil at Walmart, but mostly shelves empty. Have not been in the autozone, advance auto stores, but will look. Tractor supply had some, but not exactly bulging at the seams with inventory.

I get the impression many of the large chains are moving to synthetics, was wondering when the conventional diesel oils would be displaced. Maybe thats happening...

Well Shell Rotella T6 5w-40 had disappeared too. It' all gone....... watch the price spike when the selves fill up again.....remember the Freon fiasco?

Menards was the only place I could find rotella a couple months ago (T6 and T4). When I found it, I bought enough for my annual needs which I mostly use up between January and march

I dont think so, yesterday I visited with my rep from Mobil, and he said he could get me 1300 Super way more often than the Syn. 1300 Xtreme I normally run. He also me too es one of the grease plants up in the NE burned, and they produced 30% or so of all the grease in the US.
