I don't want to ware this out this is why we do this.
2007 Nissan Maxima 3.5L V6 oil leak it pays 4.0hr. its a gravy job for us that do this. Yes its aggerating to get all the wire clips off. Nissan is famous for making the wiring harness as short as possible there is no free play to them. At this age rubber parts are brittle and break. We get thru all this and order up the parts it falls back together like clockwork as long as you don't unplug the throttle body and have to reset idle speed etc...

Vehicles are made to assemble not take apart get over take it apart most assemble great.

Lets go get the valve cover gaskets the cowl has to come off I took the pix after I put it back together I am waiting for a new seal for the cowl it was trashed and I am not putting it back on with out a new seal : ) I will add a pix when I get the cowl back on. Its not possible to do the job with the cowl on : (

10 years from now when this job is repeated it will be a nightmare every thing he touches will break... Its not as bad as it looks and reminds you why you do it.

Looks very interesting. It would be educational to be watching but not doing any of the work. I'm curious as to why you say it will be a nightmare for someone 10 years from now. Is that because of parts not available or everything is so worn out that much more repair needs to be done? What mileage does this have? I have a 2008 Chev Uplander with 165,000 miles which has needed a transmission replaced at about 150,000 miles.

Glad you are doing it, and not me. Years ago I worked for a short time in a foreign car garage. It didn't take long to realize I didn't want to do that
for a living. Stan

So with working on all the different vehicles and some of the stupid things the manufactures have done, and knowing which are problems. What do you own and drive?

Vehicles (equipment) are made to assemble not take apart get over it
Going to have to make sign that says that and hang it on the toolbox.
LMAO !

It has 117K, as plastic/rubber ages and goes thru heat cycles it gets harder/brittle and breaks. Dirt will enter the connector locks they will be a bear to disconnect without breaking. @ 20 years 200K I would price a set of valve covers to replace the original covers. It will need spark plug tube seals they are pressed into the cover I doubt they will come out without breaking the cover. BTW at this time spark plug tube seals are not available for the covers. The covers are $250 a piece.

Why we do this, it came apart well no special tools needed just what we normally use everyday : ) It was a easy enjoyable job no stress on the body.

One hose that was brittle and broke and a tip for Nissan lubbers. Oil plug sealing washers are dirt cheap so cheap you can give them away replace them every time the oil plug is out.

What I drive

Not a joke, what I BUY fix up and give to my kids when they are done with it I have to BUY it back from'em.

I drive older cars/trucks everyone I have more in them than they are worth. I know car shopping is a big pain I am lucky most just fall into my lap. I know it and the customer is ready to get rid of it painless.

Honda's and Toyota's are at the top of my list I never pass up one of theses Fords that's been well maintained. They are not without issues the good the issues are a pattern if it fails on one it will fail on all you know going in what you need to do to repair it. They are a tank and economical to drive. I rate them as one of the best cars ever built they are better on fuel than my Honda Accord.

(quoted from post at 17:02:17 02/26/22) I like your posts by the way.

Thanks Tom.

Most have a perception everything has a zipper on it I keep customers informed as I progress and welcome them to stop by for a look. Folks will pay well when they have confidence and trust in your work. I have never understood why folks jump from shop to shop find that guy and support him.

Our competition survives on convenience I can not make a good customer out of a person that's looking for convenience. I don't even try I will never satisfy them.

My perception Competition "an event or contest in which people compete." I am sorry I am not your guy...

And don't pull your cell phone out and parts shop quicker than I can. I will point you to my competition its their game a game I don't play.

I am enjoying your pictures recently. I am amazed at your work. Well done! I wish I had just a fraction of your
talent and skills. I look forward to seeing more pictures. Thank you. Kow Farmer

I can tell you why he says it will be a nightmare in 10 years.

Parts related to the job made of plastic and rubber will need to be replaced because they are either brittle and break or are just plain rotted out. Next part of the nightmare is getting replacements. Much of it will simply be no longer available.

So, the poor guy that has to replace valve cover gaskets will have to deal with a double handful of parts that will simply disintegrate in his hands and can't be bought any longer.
