Does anyone know what the negative tongue weight might b

I have posted a couple pictures of John Deere and Kinze soybean planters with negative tongue weights. Was going to pull one home I bought and wanted to add weights to my pickup box accordingly. I already own a John Deere 7000 6 row with 5 splitters, so I know about negative tongue weight and the precautions necessary. Just wondering if anyone knows what the negative tongue weight might actually be? Thanks.

I think it will be a lot. More than I would want to have, even with weights in the back of a pickup. I think I would either have it trucked drive a tractor to it or hang the weight on the tongue of the planter. Probably around a 1000 LBS or maybe more depending on how far forward you can get them. Farther front the less it will take.

I don't know the answer, but that looks really scary to be pulling on the road!

Perfect storm for wag the dog into disaster!

Putting it on a trailer with proper tongue weight would be much safer.

The operators manual and dealer delivery instructions would have that type of information. If you can't find those manuals online, the seller should be able to answer your question.

When the planter is in raised position and unhooked from tractor does it require a jackstand on the back to hold the hitch down? With no seed in boxes and the long hitch it is probably not as bad as you think. If you are too concerned you could put a couple hundred pounds in back of pickup before towing.

I pulled a 28' JD 960 field cultivator with a 3 bar spring harrow on it, 80 miles with 4wd Dodge regular cab diesel. I weigh about 220 and I couldn't push the tongue down standing on it. I added 600 lbs. of front weights not sure how much it helped. I had no trouble pulling it 35-40, over 45 it started to get squirrelly. I have no idea what the negative hitch weight would be for the planter. I'm not sure you'd need any more than I used but you can always take more it won't hurt.

You can download the John Deere operating manual for free on the John Deere publishing website .with the planter fully in the fully raised position it should rock a little of that weight forward . I cant see the numbers well enough in the first picture to tell what the model is . Dont let Barney get you . I pulled a 500 bushel grain cart 600 miles down the interstate to home with a one ton truck I had to buy a permit and flags on all 4 corners I also bought a cheap set of magnetic tail lights and wired them into the truck light plug so I had stop turn and taillights .
