Maybe everything is ready

We spent all week trying to get everything ready to plant corn and set out tobacco. We had a fellow that had helped occasionally start full time this week. I sure was glad to see him as the more we fixed, the more that needed to be fixed in preparation to start. I think everything is good to go planting corn except putting the buggy top on the hiboy for a little shade for him. Probably will be another week before any baccer is set out.

Last year some farmers planted corn early, April 15.
Many farmers are disking their fields.
Perhaps the dark soil collects more light and warms the ground..

Our son has all his corn planted except the big sweet corn patch his daughter is going to sell at the farmers market.

I hope all your equipment works well, and you were able to get all the supplies you need. The local weather guy we prefer said yesterday that there was a chance of snow or ice showing up in the extended forecast for next weekend. Hopefully that will leave you and us alone. I may try to get some sweet corn 8n the ground this week.

Must be a lot warmer down there than in MI (heavy frost this morning). I was surprised to see Welker Farms planting peas in Shelby MT yesterday.

Greetings from SE IN!! Speaking of the weather, I so clearly remember this weekend of 1987! Had a huge snow, all through Kentucky and Indiana. Only thoughts of planting were seeding and starting greenhouse tobacco plants!! Even Reds Opening Day in Cincinnati required special preparations for the game day!!

Dad ran the field cultivator over a fair amount yesterday and I was able to start planting today. Had a few glitches getting started, but was able to meet the manager of the farm manufacturing store we frequent at his home to get parts we needed to get going again. Seems like it always takes longer to get started than to actually do it. Gray is chomping at the bit to help him plant his. That'll be a Sunday project.

Eastern NC. Typically our hard frost days for the year are getting numbered. Usually we're pretty safe by April 15th.

I'm looking forward to being able to start transplanting the baccer plants as they have been mowed many times and are close to ready to hit the field. Greenhouses were seeded back on February 10th.
