And not kill flowers?
This weed grows better in last year's bean
fields

vs corn fields.
And what chemical is applied to last years corn and
not to beans?

I'm asking how to kill the weed?
I have no clue what it's called.
Hoping the pic would help...

Purple Dead Nettle

Great for pollinators early in the spring.

Very unlikely. Herbicides that kill near everything like roundup, Are applied to Corn that is genetically engineered to grow even when roundup is present. Herbicides that only kill broad leaved weeds and plants but kill 90% of flowers as well. Two types of plants are cropped. Monocots, like corn rye wheat oats, and dicots like soybeans and vegetable, lima beans, and broadleaved pumpkins etc. Jim

Isn't that the henbit you posted the other day? If so, 2,4-d works as does Roundup.

It is not a perennial but an annual. Kill it every year to prevent reseeding and eventually it will be gone. At least that is my experience in my lawn.

Yes I posted the other day about the weed.
Some wanted a close up pic.
Problem roundup also kills flowers..
2-4d kills some weeds and not grass.
May experiment to see if 2-4d kills it.
I still like to know why bean fields are loaded and what residual chemicals applied to last year's corn reduce the growth of the weed.
There are roundup beans. So I'm thinking it may not be roundup.
Is 2-4d applied to corn and not beans??

See my response above: I don't think the residual is what is stopping it. It is not a perennial, it grows from last years seeds. If last year was completely annihilated before seed production, it won't appear, other than any blown in seed.

Parts of my acreage are completely clear this spring, the ones I sprayed well last year.

The weed is henbit and is (unfortunately) better controlled in the fall with 2-4D, you're only herbicide option now is a glyphosate but, as you know, that'll kill your flowers too. The silver lining is that henbit comes and goes like a flash in the pan; it'll be gone before you know it! Maybe try a prodiamine-containing fertilizer this fall as a winterizer or put it down earlier in the spring. All I really know, is henbit is an uphill fight and about the only weed I hate worse than crabgrass...it's second to chiggars on my 'Top 10 Most Hated Organisms' list.

Mix up some of whatever you want to use and spot spray some patches. You will find out what will kill it and then you can cover the flowers and not kill them. For the corn over bean question I would guess it has to do with the timing of the spraying. Corn would spray earlier than beans some places and might be the thing or maybe The difference in product. Like I sprayed some corn so I didn't have a carry over for alfalfa on one field.

By flowers do you mean pretty blooming plants around your house, or do you mean sunflowers?

Soybeans have roundup; roundup, Liberty, 24D; or roundup and dicamba , as the 3 big weed control options these days. None of these chemicals have a very long term residual to control this weed for months at a time. There are an assortment of pre emerge chemicals that will do some early control.

Corn has a lot better options that will control weeds like this for a longer time period.

So very often we control weeds for a month or two in corn; but we are just control the green weeds we see in beans and allow a new flush of weeds to start growing in beans.
