finally got my new alternator on this h4. bought a new starting switch. they have a red wire coming from the starter to the top. hooked it up
where it says battery. white wire from solenoid i hooked it up to the center post. she fired up but shut off when the switch releases back.
so i traced the wire to the points. changed that wire to the acc screw. wont start. if i jumper it to the red wire from starter she will fire
up. only problem it wont shut off. probably something simple. comments welcome.

How about a picture of the terminals, or the part number, of the switch you got? Many universal switches have 4 terminals the center is generally start. Around the outside are battery, ignition, and accessory. The wire to the points should be on a terminal marked IGN (ignition). That terminal should be live at the same time start is used, ACC would not be. If you have an ammeter I would get the battery power from the ammeter load terminal for the switch.

funny how some one tells you something and all of a sudden a light goes off n your head. as soon as i read your post i new what i had done
wrong. all wired up now. alternator charges fine. starts great, shuts completely off when key is turned off. thanks
